A Valiant Vonner Victory? Or More?

So, it’s already been reported here at AFi (here and here), as well as some of the other toy sites, and speculated about on various forums, that David Vonner (who has worked on fan-favorite lines like Marvel Legends and Marvel Universe in his time at Toy Biz and Hasbro) is working on a new project. What is it? He’s not saying. But, he’s sure been hinting a lot through Twitter.

So, what could it be? Well, whatever it is seems to be a) action figure related and b) related to Valiant Comics. He’s posted several images to Twitter.  In one image he was making a “V” sign with his fingers and tagged it, “Always been my favorite letter.” Well, yeah. V for Vonner. Or, a hint at something else? V for Valiant perhaps? The first full body figure shot he posted was a silhouetted image than many fans immediately claimed to be Bloodshot, a character from Valiant’s stable. The second image, another silhouetted figure was clearly of Shadowman, also a Valiant character. It was pretty unmistakeable. He held a staff-like object that looks just the character’s Sengese blade. Not to mention that you can make out the icon on his left pectoral.

So, that’s all well and good. That’s already been reported and discussed online. It seems pretty obvious that Dave is working on some sort of action figure related project that involves Valiant Comics. But, given that, we are still left with a plethora of questions at this point. Is this project just Valiant, or might it involve other smaller publishers like Toy Biz’s old Legendary Comic Book Heroes line. What scale will the figures be? When are they coming out? How are they coming out? Does Valiant have the recognition to get their characters into places such as Toys R Us or Target? Would these figures be exclusive to the specialty market?

Whatever we think we do know at this point, it’s clear that there is much more that we don’t know. Yet.

I’ve started a thread in our General Toy Talk forum for this (here’s a direct link). Let’s continue the discussion and speculation there as we all wait to find out exactly what’s up. Will we hear something out of C2E2 in April? Comic Con this summer? I don’t know. But, I’ll be watching and reading and listening.
