AFI’s –
Action Figure Halloween Costume Contest

Lots of other websites have costume contests this time of year.  Dress up, send your pictures in, win a prize.  You know the drill.  But we’re going to do things a little different.   We want you to dress up your ACTION FIGURES in their Halloween costumes and send us the pictures.

In celebration of their new CINEMA OF FEAR line, Mezco has made a small run of figures in solid colors, to be given away as prizes from websites and publications.

AFI is proud to partner with Mezco in giving away a set of GOLD series 1 figures.

Here are the prizes:

So here is how the contest will work:

  1. Pick a figure from your collection and dress IT in a Halloween costume.   It can be as small as a Mez-it on up to an 18" figure.  We just want it in a costume OTHER what they would normally wear.
  2. Take a picture of it.  Each person can submit up TWO pictures of a figure in a costume. (so pick your favorite 2!)
  3. Send your name, mailing address, AFI forum name (that’s right.  You need to be a forum member with at least 5 postsIf you need to sign up for the forum click here. Now get posting!) and the picture(s) to the following address:
  4. ALL entries MUST be received by Sunday November 18th at midnight PST
  5. Winners will be chosen and notified  by  November 30th.  Prizes will be mailed out shortly thereafter.

Be creative! Be funny!  Be different!  We don’t want to just see some figure repainted.  We want to see a figure, wearing a costume!

One figure will be awarded to the best costume

One figure will go to the funniest/creative picture

One figure will go to the best costume ON A MEZCO FIGURE!

And the last figure will go to the most horrific!  (These are Horror Movie figures after all!)

The judges will be announced soon.  But in the meantime get creative and get your entries in!

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on,,, Boing-Boing,, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
