#AFiScoopWeek 11th Anniversary Day 2 – @Mattel ‘s @DCComics #Multiverse ‘Dark Knight Returns’ Robin
April 19, 2016

Welcome back to AFi’s 11th Aniversary Scoop Week.    For our first reveal of the day we have a new 6″ DC Multiverse action figure from Mattel.  The new figure is Carrie Kelly Robin from the original Frank Miller miniseries Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.

This figure was rumored back in January when someone found a listing of upcoming Multiverse figures in the Walmart computer systems, we are confirming that rumor and revealing the figure.

The original 3 Mattel DC Multiverse Dark Knight Returns figures, Batman, Superman and Son of the Bat are current Walmart exclusives.

In February, at Toy Fair, we were shown two more Dark Knight Returns Multiverse figures, The Mutant Leader and Armored Batman.   These newly revealed figures will NOT be Walmart exclusives, and will be available everywhere in an upcoming Multiverse wave.

As it turns out Carrie Kelley Robin figure was supposed to debut at Toy Fair, but the figure was wrapped up and shipped to Toy Fair so well that it wasn’t found while the staff was unpacking and setting up. (Which is an understandable oversight seeing as the roof to the original venue for the collector press event collapsed the afternoon of the event so the Mattel staff had to scramble to move everything to another space around the corner.)

All that being said we are honored to be able to reveal the figure here for the first time on AFi as part of our 11th anniversary “Scoop Week”

This figure is a brand new sculpt and will be part of an upcoming wave of Mattel’s DC Multiverse 6″ action figure line.  She will NOT be a store exclusive.

Thank you to the team at Mattel for letting us reveal the figure!  We will have another Mattel figure reveal later this week so stay tuned!!

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Time.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, CNN.com, AssociatedPress.com Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

I am actually excited about this line. Mutant leader is a must! Armored Batman looks decent. Carrie Kelley is nothing new. Been done before. Give us some original DKR characters. DC Multiverse should seriously consider doing Oliver Queen, Bruce Wayne( final batcave attire), Clark Kent, Comm Gordon. Come on guys it’s a no brainer with Oliver Queen! Green arrow will never be hotter with the popular CW show. A true surprise would have been Oliver Queen not Carrie Kelley??? Seriously?

  • elvis8batman says:

Seeing as the DKR figures are based off the MOTUC and now Thundercats bodies, anyone else thinking that the Carrie Kelley Robin will be a good indicator of future scale and part use for the Thundercats Wily Kit/Wily Kat figures?

  • Agent 86 says:

This is cool, but are they going to release the standard Batman and Superman at all stores (or at least on mattycollector.com)?

I’d like to collect the DKR figures, but as an international fan, the standard Batman and Superman are unobtainable (unless I’m willing to pay a very high secondary price and high international shipping on Ebay). And if I can’t get the standard Superman and Batman, then I have no interest in the other figures.

  • demoncat_4 says:

was wondering when i saw a son of batman mutant. batman and superman from the dkr if maybe both the mutant leader and carrie were also going to show up too like in a second wave that now leads the joker to complete the dkr line up .
