All Will Be Well in HeroClix Land
February 3, 2010

HeroClix have been back for a while.  And I feel remiss for not blogging their return.  Then again, most stores in my area have not carried the product since the return and there are no nearby places to play anymore.  So they only kind of came back.

Brief history.  HeroClix were created by WizKidsGames.  The owner sold the line to Topps.  Topps decided to stop producing.  NECA is the new producer.  The first set from NECA is Hammer of Thor, which came out in November of 2009.  To be honest, unless you are a huge Thor or Norse god fan, the set is kind of limited in appeal.  Added to the recent sets Avengers, XMen & Hulk, and Invasion it does a nice job of rounding out some aspects of the Marvel Universe.

The next set is DC:Brave and Bold.  The idea is tons of figures using the two figures on one dial mechanic, simulating the team ups of the old comic – and now the current TV show.  We’ve been told we can expect classic teams like Green Lantern & Flash and more recent ones like Harley Quin and Poison Ivy.  This set is due out mid April 2010.

And there is more.  The "starter set" for 2010 will be Blackest Night themed.  All this week, WizKids is revealing the pieces from the starter set and they are Hal Jordan and the deputized lanterns: Mera, Lex Luthor, Scarecrow, Flash, Atom, Wonder Woman.

– From the WizKids site –

"The War of the Light comes to HeroClix with the DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game! As the Blackest Night encompasses the world, heroes and villains alike are deputized into the Lantern Corps to fight back against the legions of Black Lanterns. Choose a team of lanterns and take them into battle! This starter game includes everything a player needs to play HeroClix, including figures, map, rules and more. The DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game will be in stores May 12, 2010."

Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

I think I’m just about done with Clix. I got a few boosters for HOT and I’ll probably get a few boosters fof BandB. But my case days are over. It had a nice run, it’s sort of collapsing under its own weight now.

I used to say that after every release. I did skip a number of Marvel sets Starting with Sinister. But each DC set pulls me back in. I hardly ever complete an entire set (the super rares are too hard to get or too expensive), but I love having tons of different characters in about the same size.
