MattyAFiLogo-150x150.jpgTwice a month the gang from Mattel are kind enough to answer five questions from AFi readers.  The Mattel marketing and PR team, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums.

Don’t forget, a brand new batch of items go on sale today so head over to and check them out.  And while you are over there pick up a DC Club Infinite Earths sub and keep line of awesome 6″ figures going!!

Q1. When can we expect to start seeing the new DC lines (especially the “evergreen Batman 3.75”) start hitting retail? (Generally speaking, are they estimated for Q3 of 13? Q4? Not until 2014…)

A1. These lines are schedule to hit in Spring 2014.

Q2. Are there future waves of 1966 Batman figures planned beyond what has already been announced?

A2. No, at this point you have seen all the 1966 figs including the awesome Batmobile.

Q3.  I want to know if all movie masters figures will be in the new 4 inch scale moving forward or will we see a return to the 6 inch scale for things like the Man of Steel sequel so they can go with our current collections?

A3. At this time we only have 4″ figures planned but you never know what the future will bring. 6″ is not off the table.

Q4.  It appears, based upon pictures from Comic Con, that the 3-3/4″ evergreen Batman line figures will now feature knee & elbow articulation. Is that the case?

A4.  Yes.

Q5.  With someone else taking the license to Teen Titans Go, could they still add Cyborg and Beast Boy to the Fisher Price lines like Imaginext? Even though Young Justice has ended, could they add Kid Flash and Superboy to the Fisher Price lines like Imaginext?

A5.  It is possible but we don’t have plans to announce right now.

If you’d like to ask a question for the  July 1st submission then feel free to post your questions in our Mattel Q&A question submissions thread!   Remember they can be about any Mattel product including MOTUC, Ghostbusters, WWE, any of the Mattel DC lines, Voltron and Cars. Twice a month we draw our submission question directly from the ones that AFi readers post.

You can submit new questions in this thread.

Thanks again to the team at Mattel for taking time to answer our questions!

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on,, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post,,,, Boing-Boing,, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

  • CAL says:

Sucks about no more ’66 Batman figures, but not unexpected.

    • Sunny Day says:

That’s sad news. I had hoped for Egghead, King Tut, Mad Hatter, and Bookworm. I think they would have sold, if given a chance.

  • yfn jman says:

I just got my batmobile today. and it is awesome!

  • Freddie says:

NO BATGIRL FROM THE 66 LINE!??!?!?!?!!!?!????!?!?!?!?? That’s just crazy talk!

  • tony says:

no six inch movie masters? I guess mattel does not need my money anymore.
If is not a six inch scale COUNT ME OUT. I will give my money to the new
star wars 6 inch figures to go along all my dc/marvel figures.
By the way a six inch Michael Keaton as a six inch movie master would had
    been SWEET.

  • demoncat4 says:

not surprised for no new batman 66 figures for odds are mattel could not get the okay from the estates like vincent price for egg head or figured alfred and com gordon would not sell. as for batgirl. Yvone craig never gave the okay for her likeness to be used in the line so batgirl was not going to happen.and took mattel time to get on the 3&3/4 trend. though wonder how long before the new line dies at retail too.

    • Figures Toy Company is doing Vincent Price as Egghead in their Mego-style action figure line, as well as figures of King Tut, Mr. Freeze, Shame, Bookworm, and Mad Hatter. So, I don’t think the likenesses rights could have been much of an issue for Mattel.

  • That is really disappointing news regarding the 66 Batman figures! WTF Mattel?????? I suppose the sold out Batmobile will not be reproduced? I no longer have any love for Mattel.

  • Ed Catto says:

Really surprised about the Batman 66 line being cancelled. While on one had it seems like it didn’t have a chance to connect with consumers beyond the fan -base, I wonder if part of the problem is that the buyers of major retailers just didn’t get it, or the demands placed upon them weren’t condusive to a line like this.

    • jay says:

i would guess that they killed the line because they realized how insectoid and fugly the figures ending up looking. that batusi batman looks absolutely dreadful.

  • Al Hartman says:

    Where did he say cancelled?

He just said no future waves were planned AT THIS TIME. If the first wave sells out fast, Mattel would be stupid to leave money on the table and not do more runs and future waves.

    • Geof says:

Q2. Are there future waves of 1966 Batman figures planned beyond what has already been announced?

A2. No, at this point you have seen all the 1966 figs including the awesome Batmobile.

There’s no mention of “future waves” or anything “at this time”. The “at this point” is a reference to everything that’s been shown, with no qualifier to indicate anything more to come. Sadly, this is really a “no”.

  • Mordachi says:

So the movie masters are now just going to be 4 inches? WTF mattel?! I want to complete my 6 inch scale not a 4 inch line. Looks like i’ll be reduced to customizing the rest of my figures for future movies which means Marvel will be getting my money instead of mattel.
It annoys me that they keep shafting the 6 inch DC figure lines but they will always make the wwe 6 inch figures, whn BOTH lines sell well.

  • Skott says:

So wait, all those great Power Attack/evergreen Batman figures from SDCC are 3 3/4″? The 6″ version of that line is dead? And the 6″ version of Movie Masters is essentially dead too. Ugh, you’re kidding, right?

I do have to say I’m not entirely surprised by the Batman 66 line ending. There’s no way the 2nd tier villains were going to sell at retail.Though I still think that the minute Yvonne Craig is convinced to sign off on the likeness rights we’ll see a TRU exclusive 2-pack of Batgirl and Eartha Kitt as Catwoman.

  • John DeBlasi says:

Mattel, you had your chance and you’ve blown it. What the hell are you thinking!!!!!!! No more classic 1966 TV Batman figures!!!!!!!!!!!! The few you did sold like you, crazy!!! Wha’t the problem, can’t think of any other figures to do? Let’s see, there is ROBIN, BATGIRL, ALFRED, BRUCE, DICK, KING TUT, MAD HATTER, PINK COWL BATMAN, COMM. GORDON, BARBARA GORDON, MR. FRIGGEN FREEZE FOR PETE SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE DAMM BATCAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE LIST GOES ON AND ON. And don’t tell me that they won’t sell, prove it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
