Erik "Superfriend" Skov

“Gathered together from the four corners of the universe.” Oh, wait, that’s the show, not me. Erik “SuperFriend” Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

I passed on the Bat Sub when it first came out.  But I had a Target gift card eating a hole in my wallet shortly after Christmas and the Bat Copter caught my eye.  I loved the Beetle Ship (see previous review).  The parts were fun.  This had lots of parts.  And seemed to…

I made a toy run on my way home this evening.  I do not go very often any more.  Never seems to be anything out there.  And I always have a ton to do these days (teaching my son to drive for one).  There at Target was a bunch of JLU 3 packs.  NBC used…

Frequent readers know I have a thing for the Batman Brave and Bold line.  Earlier this week we were alerted to the fact that this humongous Bat Bot was available for the ridiculous price of $6.99.  Yes, less than the cost of a basic figure for the same line ($8.99).  I was intrigued.  Then our…

Batman: Under the Red Hood, the latest release in the WB/DC Comics animated movies was released on Tuesday this week.   I honestly forgot until yesterday.  Popping into Target, they had no copies of the basic or 2 disc versions left.  Best Buy is down the street, so I went there next.  Best Buy also…

Dear Mattel, I just wanted to say Thank You for the JLU line.  Not only is it continuing, but with the figures shown coming at SDCC 2010, you have given us almost all of our highly requested figures.  We’ve run a number of JLU Most Wanted polls at AFi.  Each year you hit a few…

OK, I called it on these.  That they were coming ages ago: Forum topic started in April 2010. And just before they were announced, I wrote this: Blog I wrote the day before they were announced. These are pretty AWESOME. (From left to right – Aquaman, Green Arrow, Hawkgirl, Deadman, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm, Hawkman, Mera)…

SDCC is only about 10 days away.  I find myself day dreaming about what could be.  If you’ve read some of my other blogs you know that I see DC Direct’s 6 inch of DC characters and Mattel’s 6 inch DC Universe classics as competing for my money but complementing each other on my shelves….

A short one this time.  Stores were reducing their toy section stock after the Christmas holiday season.  I found myself in Khol’s.  They were having a massive sale.  They had 1 Batman Brave and Bold figure. Its real name is "Deluxe Villain Snare Batman", but it looks and works like a bear trap.  The real…

DC Direct made a handful of figures for the animated movie Superman:Doomsday.  At one point, we heard that Warner DC Animated movies after that would only come from Mattel.  Mattel tried its hand at this with Superman/Batman:Public Enemies.  Mattel decided to do these in an animated style in the 6 inch (DC Universe Classics) scale…

Transforming Batcycle.  Have you been holding off on buying this vehicle from the Batman Brave and Bold line?  I know I have. Packaging.  Why is this the only item in the entire line without a window box?  Does it play great but present poorly?   Price.  $19.99  More than I paid for the Blue Beetle…

From the AFi Mattel Interview: "JLU fans tend to be louder rather than numerous". I think Mattel failed to take into account a number of issues in terms of setting up their on line sales for JLU product. 1. Fans are MAD that they have been unable for years to find figures shown at SDCC…

The second half of the GI Joe Sneak Peak panel was devoted to a reveal so secret, it was marked "For Your Eyes Only" (cue sappy James Bond music).  Again, no photography was allowed. Hasbro is teaming with the Discovery Channel to create HUB, a new kids TV channel.  And the reason this is being…

One of the most eagerly awaited panels of the convention was the new toy sneak peak.  Since no pictures were allowed, here are my notes from the panel.  I apologize in advance if I mixed up any of this. I do know there are items I missed.  They were showing things too fast to write…

The GI Joe 2010 Convention was held May 1st and 2nd, at the Providence, RI Civic Center and Westin Hotel.  Here is one of the highlights, Cobra’s Finest. The members of Cobra’s Finest cosplay as GI Joe characters, well the villains of GI Joe actually.  Cosplay is more than just wearing a costume.  Its a…

If you’ve been following DC’s Green Lantern comics, you probably read Blackest Night.  Purchasing various comics across the event got you a free ring for a given Lantern Corps.  8 rings.  Now there is one more. Brightest Day #1 is due out tomorrow, 5/5/2010, and with it, your very own WHITE Lantern ring.  So if…

The Brave and Bold Plastic Man is another figure that uses the "build up, change up, team up" play pattern very well.  Plas comes in two versions, a basic and a deluxe.  At the point of this writing, I have only the basic.  I was going to wait to write this until I got the…

The newest DC event is Brightest Day.  The preview issue came out last week.  It looks good.  I’d like to see DC actually follow through with this basic idea.  Its been way too dark and gloomy at DC for a long time.  Seven or so years ago, Dan Didio came on board at DC Comics. …

I love the Batman Brave and Bold show.  The lighter tone of most episodes males me happy.  The fact that Cartoon Network has changed the showing frequency so each episode is only aired once makes me unhappy.  I’ve missed two episodes since this decision.  CartoonNetwork.com now has the Shazam episode up, so I was able…

There has been lots of talk about the peg holes in the Brave and Bold line.  Some of us like them.  Some do not.  In my opinion, the two Metal Men showcase the worst and best use of this feature in the line.     Your typical basic figure comes with one plug in accessory…
