Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

Rings from Comics If you are like me, you don’t just collect your favorite license in one scale or format.  One license that has gotten better over the past few years than before is Green Lantern.  Yes, we got a movie a few years ago, but the real key turning point was when someone said, “What made you…

AvA Chase Black Window as Thor This past Wednesday saw the release of Avengers Assemble, the latest set of miniatures in WizKids HeroClix miniatures combat game.  For those not familiar with the game, think Chess with superpowers, where your team can be made up of anyone you can think of, usually from the combined DC and Marvel universes, but sometimes ventures…

Dice Masters Justice League Starter I’ve just gotten into this game.  Yeah, I’m at least 6 months (and as of today, 5 releases late, but this combination of deck building (think Dominion) and monster attacking (think Magic) is pretty cool and just released my favorite license! So you get 8 characters to choose from, 8 trap/spells to choose from, and…

DC10-Batman Once again, I am faced with wondering how I should collect my collection.  And once again, I will use HeroClix as my commentary. I recently once again began looking at making a purchase on line for a bunch of pieces.  Looking over the various sites to see which one had the most that I wanted…

Hulk Chase - Hulked out Bucky Barnes Capt America There is an old saying, “You can’t have everything, where would you put it.”  The other side of this is, “You can’t have everything, you can’t afford it.”  Or, you are just internally wired to be turned off by the idea of spending that much money. Let’s not try to fool anyone.  Collecting stuff is…

Justice League Trinity War Earlier this week, Wiz Kids released their latest set of HeroClix, Justice League: Trinity War.  If you’ve been reading here a while, you know I am a huge fan of both the game and the Justice League, so this is a set aimed right at me. The set name does a good job of suggesting…

Justice League new 52 This round of retirement hurts theme teams in so many ways the pain is difficult to describe. Superman means the LSH members from that set (9 I think) will no longer available to play with the ones in SLOSH. Galactic Guardians means the Guardians of the Galaxy characters in that set will never be available…

War Of Light Promo My friend and colleague in the “I can’t get enough news about toys and games” business, Scott Rubin, has been doing a fantastic job of covering the 2014 GAMA conference in Las Vegas this week.  Pop on over to CritToHit.com  to see all his coverage.  I’m hoping he doesn’t mind if I borrow one of…

Fire Arrives to Join the JLI Every year Mattel asks us to blindly sign up for 12 figures of which we usually know 3 or 4. Every year they say they need people who are willing to buy any character in the DC Universe. I think the problem with that is that fans of the DC Universe are fundamentally NOT like…

Mini Mates - Marvel Comics When I was at NYCC 2012, one of the most impressive things was the Minimates 10th Anniversary. For those who do not know, Minimates are licensed figures the right scale to go with all your Lego buildings, ships, and play sets.  You see, until recently, Lego did not make licensed figures.  Minimates, distributed most of…

Superman fights his arch enemy, Dust. Well, ok, gravity might be #1, because it causes action figures to fall and break. Then there is heat which during the summer causes figures to warp, changing their center of gravity and then causing them to fall. And we have manufacturing issues like one leg being shorter than the other which adds to the…

A few days ago, I joined a Facebook group that is against the new DC universe reboot which happened in Sept 2011 after the Flash Point event  (The Reboot ? Wtf !! DC Comics Relaunch Group). After reading posts there for a few days, I’ve realized the reboot is only part of my problem.  In fact, […]
