Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

DC just announced that 6 of its titles are being replaced with 6 new ones.  Two of these, I had tried and dropped.  Partially because the story did not stick with me.  I like the characters enough, but I am also feeling the sting of needing to be frugal.  Due to money issues, I dropped…

Ryan, our fellow blogger, inspired me twice in the creation of this blog.  First, I wanted to show how easy it is to write a blog.  Second, he posted in the forums about something that made me want to respond.  I could have responded in the thread, but since Julius gave me this soapbox (and…

Someone once asked me to explain HeroClix.  After some practice, I have come up with this. “Its like Chess with Super-Heroes, except that if you want to play with 4 knights and no bishops, that is not only OK, it is encouraged and expected.”  At this point, I should add that you can also use…

Once again our friends at NECA are rolling out previews of upcoming product.  I popped out to their Facebook page and found these beauties.  12 days of previews.  Here are two to wet your appetite. And from a set I did not even know was coming: Merry Clix-mas to all my fellow Clix-ers!

DC Direct was kind of cagey about the look of the Sinestro figure coming in Green Lantern wave 5.  When the new DC universe was revealed, we knew why.  Sinestro was a Green Lantern again.  But for some reason, the pictures of the figure never made it out to the news pages.  To rectify that,…

I missed this week”s episode of Young Justice, but two weeks ago, they ran one that blew my mind. Why?  Because of all the characters that made an appearance in the episode “Revelaqtion”.   I think at this point, enough time has passed that I can write this without spoilers. #1. The Secret Society of Super…

While I was at NYCC, I spent some time at the DC Direct booth asking questions about their upcoming product.  Here is my brief interview with them. 1. What is new at today’s show? a) Hawkman: JLA figure. b) Hawkgirl II: Ami-Comi statue. c) Joker: Batman Black and White statue. d) Joker: Arkham City figure….

“I now hold omnipotence. What should I do with such almighty power? The answer to that is actually quite simple: Anything I want. Anything. I am incapable of error. Any result that displeases me I can simply reverse. There is nothing I need to worry on, for I am Thanos. And Thanos is supreme. Supreme.”…

This past Wednesday concluded the first month of DC Comics revamp of their universe.  While some concepts were pretty much left as is (Batman and Green Lantern), most were revised or restarted completely.  Along with this came many costume changes. Justice League is now the front and center comic it should have been (and used…

WizKids is really expanding their HeroClix line.  In case you missed it, they have been previewing pieces from Halo, Lord of the Rings, Superman and most recently the Hulk.  Without further ado, here are some examples: Halo:

I love this.  I love that Mattel made these characters.  Why?  Because that title up there is exactly how these toys would have been advertised back in the late 70’s.  I am a child of the SuperFriends era.  That is why these characters resonate with me. These characters were added to the SuperFriends show to…

Everyone else at AFi seems to have weighed in on the DCUC Subscription, so why not me? I was among the first to tell Mattel they were doing a lousy job with character selection in JLU.  That is why I started with the JLU Most Wanted Polls here at AFi.  With DCUC I never had…

I’ve always been a fan of team books.  Team books let you read about a whole bunch  of heroes for the price of one comic.  My first exposure to team books was Justice League of America #148 back in the late 70’s.  This book not only featured 5 members of the JLA, but 5 members…

JLU Fans are a very vocal group here at AFI.  Tomorrow we are getting the opportunity to add one more character to our collections, a special character, S.T.R.I.P.E.  (Twice is enough for all those periods.) STRIPE is special for a number of reasons. 1. STRIPE is an oversized figure.  This maxes him either doomed to…

I went to see the Green Lantern movie last evening.  I’m not going to give a critical review here.  There are tons of those already.  I just really enjoyed the whole experience and wanted to share that. I have a friend who likes to see action movies, but sometimes wants a buddy to go see…

The next release in Warner Bros / DC Animated movies came out today (June 7, 2011).  Feeding into the marketing frenzy of the live action Green Lantern movie is Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.  Like Batman: Gotham Knight, GLEK is 6 chapters that wrap into one overall story.  But you already knew that.   To me,…

I’ve recently re-thought about the comics I am buying, and a lot of them no longer fit into the realm of getting a good return of enjoyment. Avengers (and really any Marvel Comic) The recent relaunch of the Avengers group of books had me excited, but not at $4 each.  Its kind of odd.  At…
