Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

The next release in Warner Bros / DC Animated movies came out today (June 7, 2011).  Feeding into the marketing frenzy of the live action Green Lantern movie is Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.  Like Batman: Gotham Knight, GLEK is 6 chapters that wrap into one overall story.  But you already knew that.   To me,…

I’ve recently re-thought about the comics I am buying, and a lot of them no longer fit into the realm of getting a good return of enjoyment. Avengers (and really any Marvel Comic) The recent relaunch of the Avengers group of books had me excited, but not at $4 each.  Its kind of odd.  At…

Don’t forget in all the hype of Toy Fair that we also have this to look forward too!  All Star Superman is one of my favorite recent stories.  Like Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, I’m glad to see it getting the animated movie treatment.  I’ve been trying to think of what other stories I’d like to see.

Over at DC Comics .com , in their blog today, we got the news we’ve been waiting for.  More DC Direct action figures are on their way.  Fans have been concerned and rumors of the line’s demise have been swirling since the last round of DC comic book solicitations came out without any DC figures shown. …

Red Tornado is one of those characters I go hot and cold on.  Loved him in the Satellite era of the JLA.  Then he disappeared.  Young Justice (the comic) brought him back in an interesting way.  Apparently he started out as a plot to destroy the Justice Society.  And joined the JLA before I met…

I’ve been remiss in promoting one of my favorite games.  For the past year or so.  Playing HeroClix, WizKids super-hero (and villain) miniatures game really came to a halt around Jan 2009 when Topps, their parent company, dissolved the division.  It came back, but by then playing it had pretty much died around my area. …

I never got around to blogging about all the cool Super-Hero stuff I got last year for XMas, so while I’m getting snowed in by the Blizzard of 2010, I thought I’d take a moment and quickly do up this year. Last year recap: JLU figures, HeroClix Thor Chariot, several hero T-shirts, Superman PJ’s, and…

DC Comics is currently publishing a comic book called Justice League of America, but to me it does not star the Justice League.  Why do I feel this way?  Because DC and the writer keep putting in stuff to tell me this is about the Justice League when the identity of the team should be…

We’ve been discussing the Young Justice show for a while here at AFi.  Several threads.  Here is one dedicated to the show  Here is another dedicated to a recent magazine article. What I find interesting is the preconceptions people have about what this show should be.  A number of them seemed to imply that the poster…

I often use this medium to complain.  Instead, I thought I’d write about things I am thankful for this year (I had a minister tell me at one point he was asked to come up with 100 things he was thankful for.  He said it was hard even for him to come up with that…

I must start this with saying the questions asked were extremely biased upon what I wanted to know in regards to DC Direct and possible future product offerings. And that this report is based upon the notes I took and my memory, so there is some paraphrasing. With that out of the way…   The…

The Young Justice panel started with a preview of the new show.  Two clips actually, run one right after the other.  "Today is the day,"  they all kept saying as each sidekick and hero pair fought an ice themed villain.  Robin, Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash.  The new Aqualad.  More on him later.  Every scene brought…

I’m back.  Actually, at this point I’ve been back for a day or so, but my internal clock is still a  mess.  New York Comic Con is over for 2010. The 21 hours refers to how long I was up on Saturday to get there, attend, and get back.  It was a blast, but exhausting, …

$2.99 Comics Make a Comeback! I’ve been meaning on writing this blog for a while.  How I had not started certain comic series because 3.99 felt like too much (Avengers).  How I was going to drop certain titles when the current arc was over because 3.99 per issue was too high (Legion of Super-Heroes).  While…

Superman Batman: Apocalypse came out yesterday.  For those who have not seen it or read the source material, I’ll try to avoid spoilers. What I liked.   The art.  Once again, WB/DC Animation tried and succeeded doing a good job matching the style of the animation to the style of the art in the source…

The second movie based upon the comic Superman / Batman is due out next week.  "Superman Batman: Apocalypse." Tuesday, September 28.  It doesn’t seem to be getting the press it deserves, so I’m adding some here. Based upon the 2nd arc of Jeff Loeb’s run on the Superman / Batman comic, this movie tells the…

Someone seems to not care about the new episodes of Batman Brave and Bold.  I love this series, but advertising for the new episodes seems to be missing. Cartoon Network has been talking about 4 premieres for last night, Friday 9/17, for over a week.  Clone Wars.  Some other new shows.  But never mentioned…

I passed on the Bat Sub when it first came out.  But I had a Target gift card eating a hole in my wallet shortly after Christmas and the Bat Copter caught my eye.  I loved the Beetle Ship (see previous review).  The parts were fun.  This had lots of parts.  And seemed to…

August 19, 2010
I made a toy run on my way home this evening.  I do not go very often any more.  Never seems to be anything out there.  And I always have a ton to do these days (teaching my son to drive for one).  There at Target was a bunch of JLU 3 packs.  NBC used…

Frequent readers know I have a thing for the Batman Brave and Bold line.  Earlier this week we were alerted to the fact that this humongous Bat Bot was available for the ridiculous price of $6.99.  Yes, less than the cost of a basic figure for the same line ($8.99).  I was intrigued.  Then our…
