Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

Halo11.jpg WizKids is really expanding their HeroClix line.  In case you missed it, they have been previewing pieces from Halo, Lord of the Rings, Superman and most recently the Hulk.  Without further ado, here are some examples: Halo:

SuperFriends1_afi1.jpg I love this.  I love that Mattel made these characters.  Why?  Because that title up there is exactly how these toys would have been advertised back in the late 70’s.  I am a child of the SuperFriends era.  That is why these characters resonate with me. These characters were added to the SuperFriends show to…

Everyone else at AFi seems to have weighed in on the DCUC Subscription, so why not me? I was among the first to tell Mattel they were doing a lousy job with character selection in JLU.  That is why I started with the JLU Most Wanted Polls here at AFi.  With DCUC I never had…

JLoA1_2171.jpg I’ve always been a fan of team books.  Team books let you read about a whole bunch  of heroes for the price of one comic.  My first exposure to team books was Justice League of America #148 back in the late 70’s.  This book not only featured 5 members of the JLA, but 5 members…

STRIPE-500x282.jpg JLU Fans are a very vocal group here at AFI.  Tomorrow we are getting the opportunity to add one more character to our collections, a special character, S.T.R.I.P.E.  (Twice is enough for all those periods.) STRIPE is special for a number of reasons. 1. STRIPE is an oversized figure.  This maxes him either doomed to…

GLrings-afi1.jpg I went to see the Green Lantern movie last evening.  I’m not going to give a critical review here.  There are tons of those already.  I just really enjoyed the whole experience and wanted to share that. I have a friend who likes to see action movies, but sometimes wants a buddy to go see…

The next release in Warner Bros / DC Animated movies came out today (June 7, 2011).  Feeding into the marketing frenzy of the live action Green Lantern movie is Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.  Like Batman: Gotham Knight, GLEK is 6 chapters that wrap into one overall story.  But you already knew that.   To me,…

I’ve recently re-thought about the comics I am buying, and a lot of them no longer fit into the realm of getting a good return of enjoyment. Avengers (and really any Marvel Comic) The recent relaunch of the Avengers group of books had me excited, but not at $4 each.  Its kind of odd.  At…

Don’t forget in all the hype of Toy Fair that we also have this to look forward too!  All Star Superman is one of my favorite recent stories.  Like Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, I’m glad to see it getting the animated movie treatment.  I’ve been trying to think of what other stories I’d like to see.

Over at DC Comics .com , in their blog today, we got the news we’ve been waiting for.  More DC Direct action figures are on their way.  Fans have been concerned and rumors of the line’s demise have been swirling since the last round of DC comic book solicitations came out without any DC figures shown. …

Red Tornado is one of those characters I go hot and cold on.  Loved him in the Satellite era of the JLA.  Then he disappeared.  Young Justice (the comic) brought him back in an interesting way.  Apparently he started out as a plot to destroy the Justice Society.  And joined the JLA before I met…

I’ve been remiss in promoting one of my favorite games.  For the past year or so.  Playing HeroClix, WizKids super-hero (and villain) miniatures game really came to a halt around Jan 2009 when Topps, their parent company, dissolved the division.  It came back, but by then playing it had pretty much died around my area. …
