Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

Part four of my Toy Fair adventure 10 years ago. To recap, in part 1, we covered how I had made a deal with a local paper to provide a story for them in exchange for credentials to get in. In part 2, we covered preparing for the show. Part 3 was the show….

Part two of my Toy Fair adventure 10 years ago. To recap, in part 1 we covered how I had made a deal with a local paper to provide a story for them in exchange for credentials to get in. Now came the prep work.  What, you thought that getting the press pass was…

Toy Fair 1999 – Part 1. 10 years ago was the last time I went to Toy Fair.  As you may know, Toy Fair is kind of an insiders look at upcoming toys.  As a Hasbro employee, I had gone a few times, but only to Hasbro’s portion of it.  To get into all…

I hear a lot of talk about people wanting every figure ‘in scale’ with every other figure in a line.  This has brought back memories of the old days, the mid 80’s, when there was only one line of heroes for each major comic company.  I was in my late teens, but thinking back, it never bothered…

My son came home a few months ago with something he just had to show me.  It was a video his history teacher had shown them at school.  Today, as we swear in the new President seemed to be a good time to share it with all of you.

I walked past the computer the other day and heard the following video.  To get the full effect, you would have to only hear the 2nd half, and then look to see a video of Japanese Anime.  I did a double take.  And I started laughing.  The words were just too true.

I found myself on an errand today which put me farther away from home than usual.  And close to a Target store.  And thus began a toy run unlike I usually make.  You have to understand.  Usually I only go to a store if I am passing by.  I don;t normally go out of my…

Every JLU 3 pack seems to have a character in it you already have.  I know, its been that way since the beginning.  Mattel felt that the main characters for the show were needed to keep the line selling to Moms and Grandpas.  Then one day they decided to throw us collectors a bone.  A ‘collector…

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/120817-JLA-McDuffieB.html Looks like time for a new lineup. This reminds me of two other JL eras. 1. Detroit, after the Satellite era disbanded. 2. International, which brought us out of the Detroit disaster. Writer Grant Morrison showed us how good a JLA based on the founding team could be. Joe Kelly reminded us that if…

To recap, I think there are some very key issues to a successful JLU 3pack.  http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/blog/superfriend/a-perfect-jlu-3-pack/  http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/blog/superfriend/how-not-to-make-a-jlu-3-pack/ There is one 3 pack that was too good, and too bad. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. . These days, DC refers to them as their "Trinity" (and the comic of that name is a good old school…

An update.  I finally have in my possession both Captain Atom and The Question from the JLU line.  While Captain Atom suffers from some of the same afflictions as many other JLU figures — feet bent at odd angles, one leg shorter than the other — the Question is just fine.  And I am glad…

I’ll be honest, I was out googling.  And I found this.  And I just had to let you guys know. http://www.ejlri.org/index.html That’s right, the Environmental Justice League of Rhode Island.

You may have caught a little news blurb in the past few days about a small plane crash in Rhode Island.  On board that plane, was my best friend, Robert Zoglio. I’ll put a few links in here to the various stories run locally, but they only tell of his end.  Not how he lived. …

WizKidsGames is no more.  You’ve seen the press release from Topps.  It was on our front news page.  It might even still be here.  The press release says that HeroClix and the other games – Pirates and Star Wars – will continue, just be run out of Topps headquarters in New York.  But just in…

I found myself and my family in Western Connecticut earlier today.  We had planned on visiting a train museum, but it was closed on Tuesdays.  So I asked the guy at the hotel desk for suggestions.  The casino was out because of my kids ages.  Then he mentioned something I had not thought of.  We…

This time it is Mattel which shows its love of the Legion of Doom.

October 25, 2008
Deep in their dark and treacherous swamp, the Legion of Doom plans its next attack… On your collection!  Ever since the creators of the SuperFriends put together 13 of the galaxy’s vilest villains, this group has been etched in our minds.  Sure, I admit to having difficulty naming all 13 at once, but that does…
