… but Robert Downey Jr. is – oh man, is he ever.
Robert *is* Tony Stark. We all know Downey Jr. spent most of his 20s and 30s in and out of trouble with the law related to his drug use and, not to make light of that, but it’s almost as if he spent all that time training for this role. I don’t think he “played” Tony Stark as much as he inhabited the character… Downey is every bit Tony Stark. Privileged, reckless, brash. Downey plays Stark exactly as he should be – Howard Hughes for the new millennium. This isn’t a one man show, but Downey easily shoulders so much of the weight in his starring role that you’ll leave the theater just wanting to see more of him in action (in and out of the Iron Man suit).

Via Trendhunter and PopFi :
The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC will be hosting a spring exhibit called "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy." The show, hosted by Giorgio Armani, will open Wednesday May 7th and run through Sept. 1st. Some of the costumes are featured in the May issue of Vogue Magazine (who had this press conference in February). Among those costumes (loosely) inspired by super-heroes and super-villains are Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Dawnstar, and those not pictured include Superman, Batman, Punisher, Flash, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, and more. Read this press release (which actually sounds interesting) for more on teacher workshops, movie screenings, and other details. And of course, there’ll be the traditional exhibition book.

(pardon the craptacular picture, please)
I stumbled across a bunch of Mattel The Dark Knight toys this morning at Wal-Mart (amazingly, the closest Wal-Mart to me which I never find anything at!) and, much to my surprise, I was able to purchase them.

One of the neat features in the new Hasbro Indiana Jones 3 3/4" figures are the little fictional and historial relics that come packed with each figure. Below is a checklist of which relic comes with what figure.

Today’s sneak preview features the German Soldier with Motorcycle as seen in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I don’t know what it is about bikers, but the Hasbro team really seems to pull out all of the stops when it comes to bike-riding characters (the last excellent one was Star Wars’ VOTC Biker Scout) Let’s take a closer look at this exceptional figure and vehicle set…

It’s not everyday that you catch a really great cartoon.
Let’s face it Saturdays morning cartoons are made for kids, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have great characters and tell good stories. Unfortunately these days, those are few and far between. Bruce Timm and company really raised the bar with Batman the animated series and JLU, but since then everything I’ve see on Saturday mornings has been rather blah. Ever since JLU went off the air I’ve been looking for a new cartoon series that could take it’s place. I thought The Batman might have been it, but it never really reached it’s full potential. It got good the last couple of seasons but it never really "took off" in my eyes. Then out of nowhere came The Spectacular Spiderman.

Let me tell you, it was an impromptu jaunt that ended up lucky for me. I had ordered a fish for one of my saltwater tanks, but that pet shop wasn’t open until 11am. Here it was 10:15am and I’d already visited PetSmart to pick up the organic food I feed my cats (yes, I’m an animal lover) so I had some time to kill.
What with all the reports of peeps finding DCUC everywhere, I figured I’d step foot into the local Toys R Us for the first time since I quit that sorry-ass management team about a year-and-a-half ago. Lots of stuff to see…new Star Wars, DC, Marvel, etc…all things I didn’t find at all whenever I managed to pick up a few ‘normal’ things at Walmart or Target. In and out in 15 minutes, I thought my good fortune would continue so I made the 30-second drive to Target.
Woo-hoo! More wonderful items, and I’m happy to announce that with my haul today I’m officially official as far as being 100% back into toy collecting. Here’s my crappy cell phone picture of my mini-assortment :

The Poll: http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11001

2006 SDCC. I was struck by certain figures. Nemesis. Sand. Aquaman with two hands. How had Mattel decided on such odd choices. Then I remembered the we, the fans, knowing the policy of reusing parts in JLU, had actively discussed Nemesis and Sand as ways to reuse Lex Luthor’s holster. Mattel had confused discussion with desire. Aquaman with two hands was an item frequently requested. But in this case, we were using the "with two hands" to refer to the classic Aquaman as seen in one episode of Superman TAS. Mattel had given us what we asked for, just misinterpreted. So I set out to make sure Mattel knew what we, the collective collector wanted most.
Poll 1 – Fall 2006. http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5248 Skipping characters we knew Mattel could not make, top and high scoring characters included Male Heroes:#1=Hawkman, #3=Mr. Miracle, Female Heroes: Fire=#1, Ice=#2, Male Villains: Grodd=#1. All of these have now been made.

We are truly living in a golden era of toys.
The stalwart lines of Marvel, DC, Star Wars and GI Joe are offering unprescidented character selection and excellent quality figures and vehicles. Old favorites like Megos and Captain Action are getting another chance at getting on the market. Every major genre movie this summer like Dark Knight, Iron Man, Prince Caspian and Indiana Jones has toy representation. Video games like The Force Unleashed, Halo and Metal Gear are getting figures based on their characters. Even shows and comics that would have never got a second look in the past by toy companies like the Goon and Aqua Teen Hunger Force are being turned into figures.
Despite all of this, there are two current licenses that continue to go without action figure representation (and it mystifies me):

Finally, the show that demonstrates that I am nothing more than a Lemming running towards the cliff returns. Thank the TV gods!
But I’m not really going to talk about the upcoming episode. No. Instead I’m going to share some of my brilliant insight on a hot button topic on LOST, namely who’s eye was it that Hurley saw when he looked in the window of that creepy cabin. I think I’ve finally figured it out…
The eye is Walt Disney’s!
