Young Justice and Green Lantern Animated are ending.  It appears that replacing them in the DC Nation block will be a new take on Batman and a new take on Teen Titans.  The new Teen Titans show appears to be modeled after the DC Nation shorts of hilarious escapades of the cast of the prior Teen Titans Go cast.

Toys for this will be interesting to see.  Mattel passed on the license for the prior series.  Sales of Young Justice toys were less than hoped for.  Green Lantern Animated toys were never made.  Based on comments in the forums and some of my prior blogs, Young Justice’s biggest enemy was the price point.  So will Mattel put out a Teen Titans Go product line that will meet the expectations of buyers at a price they are willing to pay?

Well, not me.  Not yet.  I’ve got a couple more years left in my 40s.

But, Doctor Who is turning 50 this year. Amazing. 50 years and still going strong. Sure, it had a bit of a break there in the late 80s/early 90s as far as televised adventures go. But, the Doctor still traveled through time and space on the printed page and in audio adventures during the television downtime.

I love anniversaries. Especially significant ones. Doctor Who celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary this year comes with all the expected hoopla and merchandise and I am really excited by it all. (more…)

Marvel Comics recently launched their Marvel NOW re-branding (“it’s not a reboot!”) of their publishing efforts. Being a pretty dyed-in-the-wool trade-waiter I’ve not read any of these yet. However, thanks to various online comics sites such as Newsarama and Comic Book Resources I’ve seen many of the new looks that the various Marvel characters are sporting. Some are terrific, while some are scratch-your-head, “what in the world are they thinking?” bad…and, frankly, most important to me, many would make great toys! (more…)
