BURBANK, CA (February 26, 2013) – DC Comics’ greatest superheroes and their arch nemeses face-off in an action-packed, hilarious battle in LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite. Based on the popular video game, TT Animation produced the full-length animated feature for May 21, 2013 distribution by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment as a Blu-ray™ Combo Pack ($24.98 SRP) and DVD ($19.98 SRP), On Demand and for Digital Download. The Blu-ray™ Combo Pack will include UltraViolet™*. Release will include an exclusive Lego Clark Kent/Superman figurine on pack while supplies last.

LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite provides the ultimate blend of action and humor guaranteed to entertain fanboys of all ages. The film finds Lex Luthor taking jealousy to new heights when fellow billionaire Bruce Wayne wins the Man of the Year Award. To top Wayne’s accomplishment, Lex begins a campaign for President – and to create the atmosphere for his type of fear-based politics, he recruits the Joker to perfect a Black LEGO Destructor Ray. While wreaking havoc on Gotham, Lex successfully destroys Batman’s technology – forcing the Caped Crusader to reluctantly turn to Superman for help.

LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite features the definitive voice of Lex Luthor, Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, SpongeBob SquarePants), who set the standard for Luthor’s vocal tones in the landmark Warner Bros. Animation television production, Superman: The Animated Series.

Renowned videogame/animation actors Troy Baker (Bioshock Infinite, Batman: Arkham City) and Travis Willingham (Avengers Assemble, The Super Hero Squad Show) provide the voices of Batman and Superman, respectively. The cast also includes Christopher Corey Smith (Mortal Combat vs. DC Universe) as the Joker, and Charlie Schlatter (Diagnosis Murder) in a hilarious turn as the voice of Robin.

Award-winning director/producer Jon Burton helms the film from a screenplay by David A. Goodman based on a story from Burton and Goodman. Jeremy Pardon is director of photography, and executive producers are Jill Wilfret and Kathleen Fleming. Executive producers are Benjamin Melnicker and Michael Uslan.

So, it’s already been reported here at AFi (here and here), as well as some of the other toy sites, and speculated about on various forums, that David Vonner (who has worked on fan-favorite lines like Marvel Legends and Marvel Universe in his time at Toy Biz and Hasbro) is working on a new project. I always regretted not buying the Toynami Herculoids sets when they were easily available. They are definitely one of the coolest cartoon families ever. Of course, I had only vague recollections of the cartoon so I watched a couple episodes the other day. Pretty much what you’d expect from a Alex Toth / Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the era. (Although, the Herculoids actually occupied two eras: the first 18 episodes aired around 1967 and the 11 episode “Space Stars” revival aired between 1981-82.) Anyway, the character designs were super cool and just screaming for more toys. (more…)

One of the great things about HeroClix was being able to build a team of whatever characters you wanted. Case in point: I was always disappointed that in the late 70′s Black Lightning had turned down membership in the Justice League of America.

HeroClix gave me the chance to build a team of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Black Lightning and pretend it was an adventure of the Justice League. Yes, years later, Black Lightning did join the team, but the game allowed me to do it earlier than it happened in the comics.

400 points. Batman Family themed. Batman(@100pts), Nightwing, Robin (Damien), Red Robin, Batgirl (Stephanie).

HeroClix has always been a player base of multiple camps. Play to win, using the best combination of pieces(the winning team this year at GenCon was Wasp, Morgan Le Fay, and Scarlet Witch). Recreate classic team ups from the comics (Spider-man and the Hulk). The team you always wished was in the comics (Spider-man as if a member of the Avengers).  Ironic teams (Dr Doom using Mr. Fantastic and the Thing as his underlings). (more…)

I love taking pictures of the little plastic people. Its kinda my grown-up way of playing with my toys. As an adult, I don’t think its quite possible to replicate that very imaginative space children occupy when playing with their toys. Trust me, I’ve tried. Through the eyes of a child, toys become more than inanimate things. They come to life. For me this has evolved in such a way that now I simply enjoy trying to recapture that unique perception of a toy via whimsical photographs. Plus, action figures never blink.

Well, Toy Fair 2013 is in the history books.

For me, this was one of the better Toy Fairs of recent memory. Well, part of the reason was technically outside of Toy Fair proper and that would be the unveiling of the Four Horsemen’s upcoming Power Lords revival at their Toypocalypse event.

I was remiss in not reporting that the latest WizKids HeroClix release was last Wednesday.  So here is the picture checklist (minus the chase figures).

Here is an example of a chase piece.  Notice the red base.  The chase pieces since the Incredible Hulk set have had different colored bases from the normal black base of the standard pieces.  I pulled this one when I bought two boosters on Thursday night.

You ever have a moving box of miscellaneous stuff that just never gets unpacked? I’ve had one that’s travelled with me to multiple homes. Ever time I look at it I get irritated because I’m kind’uv an anti-packrat. Finally the other day I decided enough was enough, the box was getting unpacked even if it meant throwing away all the contents. Much of it did get tossed. But one item in particular captured my attention: an old Pinewood Derby car. (more…)

I’m not sure if its taken six months to write this blog because the lines quoted above are how I feel a little, but, if you’ll forgive my tardiness I’ll plow ahead! A couple years ago I decided to dip my toes into cosplay land and made an attempt to doppelgäng Plastic Man. Truth is, I had fun. So as last year’s San Diego Comic-Con began looming I started to wonder if there was any other character I could attempt to pull off.
