Happy Birthday, Pop!

September 25th, 2008

I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shoutout to my Dad, who is celebrating his 75th birthday this week. Here’s to you Pop – let’s hope I can swing you a Cubs WS victory this year!

Someday We’ll Go All The Way

September 25th, 2008

So my beloved Cubbies have once again clinched the division. And even secured the all-important Home-Field Advantage. But, of course, they are the Cubs so I’m tempering my giddy dancing. To get you through the week, here’s a fun little …

Amazing Find at Wal-Mart!

September 18th, 2008

Michael Monsoor, a Real American Hero

April 8th, 2008

Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Monsoor received the Medal of Honor today in Washington D.C.  He wasn’t there to accept, however – he received the award posthumously.

He died a true hero: jumping on a grenade, taking the explosion in order to save his comrades.

On September 29, 2006, Michael Monsoor was part of an operation in …

One person’s kindness can make a difference

March 18th, 2008

This morning I saw a story of an amazing occurrence that happened in Denver yesterday; some kind, anonymous soul had left a literal pot of gold next to a bus stop bench on St. Patrick’s Day.  Inside was $50 in gold dollar coins, and an …

A Celebration of Festivus!

December 10th, 2007

I posted this least year, but here it is again in case you missed it. You savvy Seinfeld viewers are no doubt familiar with this holiday, but for those who aren’t – a brief summary on the phenomenon known as Festivus.

Created as a plot device for a Seinfeld episode, Festivus is a nondenominational celebration of the shunning of the traditional commercialism and materialism that accompanies the holiday season. Frank Costanza created the holiday in response to the frustrations he felt regarding the usual holiday celebrations, relating the origins to Kramer.

Remember Pearl Harbor

December 7th, 2007

We must always remember what happened on that “day of infamy”at Pearl Harbor 66 years ago today. Remembering is an act of reverence, for learning from the past. Let’s always remember Pearl Harbor, its brave men and women and the sacrifices they made that day.

GAME OVER :(

November 12th, 2007

Well, due to the AFI mess this past week, I never got to post about the Rox losing to the Sox. Not much to say, other than the Rockies had their chances, but the Sox were just so much better overall. I’m not sure any NL team could have fared …

GAME ON!!!

October 24th, 2007

It starts tonight – ROX vs SOX!  Man I can’t believe the run the Red Sox are getting, even here in town. And I’m surprised just how much disrespect is being thrown Colorado’s way, from all over the …

ROX vs SOX!

October 22nd, 2007

So it’s set now, the World Series starts on Wednesday with the Rockies traveling to Boston to face the Sox. The Rox match up pretty well with the Sox; they took two of three at Fenway Park during the regular season, and outscored Boston 20-5. Hopefully the long layoff won’t make Colorado rusty and they continue with their winning ways. This town is crazy right now, with Rockies stuff flying off the shelves.   And stores have a tough time selling stuff during the year, and now they can’t keep in in stock in October?! People are actually selling conterfeit Rockies merchandise. What has the world come to?? So WS tickets go on sale here online at 10:00 am, but I’m probably not even going to try to get ‘em. There’s about 17,000 tickets available and about 150,000 people that want them, and about 16,500 are those are filthy scalpers. I’ve got a coworker that’s a ticket "broker" and he said he could get me in the door for about $800, or I could get a seat in his suite for only $1100. Yeah, okay.
