About 6 years ago, in 2006, I started collecting Justice League Unlimited figures which then prompted me to actually watch the show they were based on. I fell in love with both. Collecting became a passion and a hobby that kept me going and interested. The evolution of the show, much like the figures, seemed to have no bounds, just getting better and more interesting. My favorite episode being “Task Force X” which blew my mind storytelling wise, giving us a whole new perspective. It wasn’t just an episode from the villains point of view but villains acting like heroes against the heroes that could be villains, bringing up all types of questions that would be reviewed more intensely later on in the season.
I had never really watched the original “Justice League” episodes, having only caught a few here and there. Eventually I caught a few repeats and one episode that stuck with me was “Hereafter”. The concept was totally out there and yet felt like it could’ve been a classic comic book issue. Superman forced to fend for himself, powerless in a savage wasteland made not just a great cartoon but great television period. And the design of the character was pretty sweet, so when Mattel opened the door to more figures in the line he was one of the first characters I thought of.
“Wait a minute Savage, are you telling me you built a time machine…out of a Delorean?”
In this video from 2008 I mistakenly (and nervously) ask Toy Guru about “Savage Time” Superman, but I meant “Hereafter” Superman:
He seemed to understand what I meant but then also got the episodes mixed up and mentions “Savage Time” Batman, which was on the top of a lot of people’s lists. I’m very happy with this figure, sure it’s great to have Vandal Savage and I’m very excited for the Toyman pack as well. But this figure was on my want list for a long time and probably my most wanted unproduced/speculated figure. I’m very happy with the end result.
Nope they don’t fit, that’s why the doors are open.
One of the plot points of “Hereafter” is Batman’s unwillingness to believe Superman was gone. In one episode Batman states that his superpower is never giving up and he very much flaunts it in “Hereafter”. I know that’s how I’m going to feel when I have the Toyman pack in my hands. It’ll be hard to believe that finally there won’t be any more. To be quite honest, I’ve gotten or will have gotten most of my wish list figures so I know I won’t be disappointed of what I didn’t get, just sad that the journey is over…
