Today’s sneak preview features the German Soldier with Motorcycle as seen in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I don’t know what it is about bikers, but the Hasbro team really seems to pull out all of the stops when it comes to bike-riding characters (the last excellent one was Star Wars’ VOTC Biker Scout) Let’s take a closer look at this exceptional figure and vehicle set…

The German Soldier is an excellent blend of plastic and soft goods, similiar but far superior to those seen in the Star Wars line. His coat has little sewn pockets and is made of a sturdy cloth that feels and looks right.

The German soldier sports a fair amount of articulation (14 pts), a removable helmet, working holster, a mauser and machine gun. He also has lots of little pouches and a canteen on his back. Someone at Hasbro certainly has been having fun sculpting WWII military figures on this line and their enthusiasm shows. He’s a great figure – my only complaint is the strap on the machine gun permenantly placed in the "shoulder strap" position.

The figure fits pretty well on the bike and with a little bit of finagling, can fit pretty well on the motorcyle. The bike, while beautifully detailed and painted, is pretty limited in what it can do. It suffers from the problem of not being able to stand up too great on it own, but since this is a problem even real motorcyles suffer from, I’ll let it slide. Also, some obvious screw holes and a metal tube on the front bottom that keeps the bike from falling over is a slight detraction from the over all aesthetic of an otherwise excellent piece.

In summation, this may be the best piece in the entire Indiana Jones action figure line. It’s certainly the best of the deluxe figures. The German Soldier is one of Hasbro’s best figure efforts to date and the bike is pretty cool too – a great addition to your Indiana Jones harrassing German army!
