Its not that I haven’t bought the singles version of a JLU figure just for the accessory before. I don’t do it often but every once in a while it’ll be something hard to pass up. Like the extra Superman I got because of the Black Mercy. Or the extra Orion for the Astro Harness. And the extra Batman for Wonder Pig. But I probably paid around five bucks for those.
This week I paid 10 dollars for a Plastic Man girder and another 10 dollars for Kandor. Granted, Kandor is pretty kick ass. But for a 10 spot? Ugg. Tough to resist when you’ve been smoking JLU for this long. Plus, this wave of JLU singles is in the new packaging. Let’s see how well you resist when you see them hanging from the pegs!
I’m hedging my bets on the all but inevitable clearance prices. If Target’s modus operandi hasn’t changed, JLU will hit clearance prices at some point in the future. If/when they do, I’ll hop on those Kandors and Plastic-girders.
And if they never hit clearance, or aren’t reduced in price by at least two dollars a piece for singles, then I won’t miss them.
Is it bad that I’m jealous of you for getting to spend $20 on those?
The Kandor piece was sculpted by the 4H for the DCUC line, but didn’t make it there, so they re-purposed for the JLU line. If we use some creative logic, we can think of that accessory as something really special and thus worth a little more.
Ah, sweet, hadn’t caught that. It really is a cool accessory and as I was looking at it just a few minutes ago I couldn’t help but thinking: “This is pretty well done for a JLU pack in.” Now it makes sense!
It is accessories like these that will make the enormous price increase worthwhile. I really hope they keep it up. Also, I’m totally jealous that you were able to find new JLU. Whenever I have a day off of work, I want to sweep the several Targets in my area for new stuff but I know that it will be fruitless, so I don’t go…ten bucks is a small price to pay for a little bit of happiness. Congrats!
Kandor may be an accessory that makes the price tag worthwhile, but I don’t really think that holds true for Plas-girder. It’s kind of cool and goofy, but for 9 bucks they could’ve molded SOMETHING instead of just repurposing what was a pretty lame accessory to start with.
Plastic crack, man. Plastic crack. Once you’re hooked, you can’t let go! Those two pieces look well worth it. Kandor is a must, especially if the 4H are behind it.
I’ve bought new packs for new characters, even if they’re packed with characters I already have, but never just for an accessory.
Although, I just got the Dum Dum Dugan 2-pack for ML. Technically, I guess I bought it for a new head accessory.

seeing that plastic man glider and Kandor which looks like its covered in snow. almost makes me want to buy jlu but other wise i passed on the line . also wonder wave of dcuc that Kandor got the no for .
I have been on board with JLU since Day 1, but it is getting really hard to continue to buy this line. Almost 10 bucks for a single that couldn’t stand, even with higher quality plastic since half the legs are of varying lengths!
DCUC is a much nicer looking figure, but is still nearing the maximum I would consider paying for a figure.
Mattel needs to do something about the cost or will be losing business from many of us, in my opinion!
Hard to buy when I can’t find them. Firestorm I have. Aquaman/Barda case I have not seen. Will buy Plas when I see him as the 3 pack never showed in this area. I have been shelling out the money for brave and bold lately.
Man,… that Kandor is nice… Hope it eventually gets released in it’s proper scale…
ANd those are two I had no problem skipping- especially since my accessories (other than wonder pig)- just get thrown in a giant box– probably never to see the light of day again (well until I have to dig through them because Im selling the figure they came with.)
Not that I hope they continue this pattern– but if I only need to get 1 0r 2 out of every wave of 5 – I can probably deal with the price increase– however I still feel at this price- if the line lasts through the year I will be amazed (exclusive or no.)
I pretty much do the same thing with the accessories. I did put Kandor in my JLU display, though, since its just really cool and I didn’t want to just relegate it to the Zip Lock baggie of accessories. It’ll end up there but, for now, its got shelf time.
I’m in a similar, yet different boat. I paid $5 for Black Mercy & the Phantom Zone projector…Eventually I got lucky enough to pick up Wonder Pig for $2.50…I’d happily pay $5 for Kandor…I WILL NOT pay $10!…On the topic of Single figures, I Also won’t pay $10 for show accurate repaints…I’m not exactly abandoning JLU (I’ve been with the DCAU since Penguin 1992!) Recently was gouged for Firestorm and Deadshot. I hope to find Barda & Aquaman…I might get Plastic Man…But my list of “comic only” characters is very small so that’s really up in the air on how I’ll feel that day I hold him and if i’m current on all my bills…The sad thing is that JLU use to be an inexpensive way to escape reality…Before Barda/Deadshot and the 2nd set of six packs being short packed and “Super Frinds” 3 packs, I was a completest…Well Mattel made Sure I can’t be any more…

Ugh, Plastic Man is just that steel I-beam repainted? I thought that was a new accessory with him. Lame. Why would he bend himself into a I-Beam?
