So we’re a month away today from the Main Event, the Big Show, the Granddaddy of them all, San Diego Comicon. It’s hard to believe last year we got our first glimpse of the gigantic Voltron Mattel had in store for us. Fast-forward to today, and we are ever so close to finally completing the big guy.
By now, you pretty much know what you’re getting for your buck, and you do get a lot of bang for that buck!
Today we’re going to take a peek at the Green Lion & Pidge, going on sale at Mattycollector.com tomorrow, as well as the August set, the Blue Lion & Princess Allura! If you’ve read the previous entries detailing the Red Lion and Yellow Lion, these are their corresponding limb counterparts. Also included are two more parts of the huge electrified collect-n-connect Blazing Sword! And we’re off!!!
Pidge stands appropriately shorter than all of the other pilots, as he should. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – these are some of the best 3 ¾” figures out there today, and it’s a real shame that these aren’t on retail shelves somewhere. He’s got a swappable helmeted head and an unhelmeted head. Also included is a stand which doubles as the key to his lion. Mattel has hinted that these pilots will be offered one day down the road in a gift set or some other fashion for all of those who missed out on them. If that happens, don’t miss out twice.
The Green Lion
Like his pal the red lion, he looks to be modeled almost directly from the original artwork. He also features the same basic articulation and transformation of the Red Lion. His mouth has a “clicky” joint, which allows for the lower jaw to hold several poses, as well as hold the included green lion sword, just like the cartoon. The head also can also swivel side to side, allowing for additional articulation as the lion or as Voltron’s huge mitt.
In the world of Voltron fandom, you’re either on Team Sven or Team Allura. Personally, I’m a Sven-man. Sven will be out in August to subscribers, but for now, the Blue Lion’s most popular pilot will have to do! She looks great, as you can see. My only warning is to exercise caution swapping out the heads, as the peg is a bit thin due to her diminutive stature.
The Blue Lion
My second favorite lion! He’s as big as the Yellow Lion, and every bit as accurate. There’s not much more to say here, other than to point you to the pretty pictures, and point out the fact that we are but one lion away from completing our massive Voltron! The blue Lion features all of the articulation and transformation gimmickry of the Yellow Lion as well.
*Special thanks to the team at Mattel for providing these awesome samples for review!
