A great story and one that mirrors my own. I think it really points to the fact that pop culture has grown with us and directly reflects those influences… as we look at the Dark Knight and spiderman’s success, the money and proclivities are there. And maybe we could never avoid it!

Ah, they were. This one was 4 miles from my house with screens that looked like skyscrapers to me at that age. Closed before I was 10, used to drive past it every morning in high school and see the screens rusting in what was now just an overgrown field with a locked gate. There was another we went to a few times later (double feature of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Hunt for Red October…good times) and one that still operates for special events and screenings about 2 hours from here. Man I miss them.

And weren’t drive-in theaters great? There’s one within an hour or so of here, and they broadcast the audio through your FM radio. I really need to get down there to catch a flick soon.

My earliest…I mean absolutely earliest…memory is watching Star Wars in a car seat at a drive-in. Double feature with Cannonball Run II, with my parents, brother, and a cousin. It was no longer first run, of course, as I was born in ’78.

And, if you don’t mind, I’m going to steal your answer the next time my mom teases me about toy collecting and tell her the blame lies with her and my dad (who isn’t around to see my Joe collection, but thought my LOTR collection was just the best).

Nicely done! Love the Christmas pics. Reminds me of how much I used to love Christmas and how much I hate it now. Oh and how much I miss Children’s Palace….Micronauts, GI Joes and Star Wars.

Yeah, I thought this might make for a nice trip down memory lane for some. Glad you enjoyed it. As for the photos, I can only hope they serve as a reminder that parents should always brush their kids’ hair and get them dressed before taking pictures on Christmas morning.

You took me back, CC. So much of your story also rings true with me. The glorious XMas mornings, reaching an age where I decided I was too old for action figures, EP I getting me back into it, picking up one JL figure then “what the hell” – I’ll get all 7, etc…
