Outstanding article, Jason. Made me think of days gone by when the most valued goodies were the homemade popcorn balls and carmel apples. Back then you didn't have to worry about being killed by the neighbor down the street.

I had to laugh at the Ben Cooper costumes. It was almost like trying to pick out your lunch box before school started. So many choices and you could only get one.

Thanks for the memories...

You forgot to mention how sweaty your face became in those old Ben Cooper masks. And how RAZOR SHARP the edges of the little mouth oval always was so you would inevitably cut your tongue. And you were lucky if the elastic band on the mask stayed connected to the staples the whole night. And my favorite was that the name of the character always had to be in big letters on the front of the costume bib… and sometimes on the mask itself!

But NONE of that mattered because you COVETTED those costumes EVERY YEAR! You HAD to have one. Gah… I loved them. I think I have some pictures scanned of me in some of them from my childhood. Maybe I’ll post those on my blog later.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane Jason!

Totally agree with your enthusiasm about Halloween. Its the holiday that lets everyone geek out!

I remember one year begging my mom for the plastic Chewbacca costume despite the fact that she said she'd make one for me. Looking back, the homemade one probably would've been 100% more awesome. Ah well.

Yeah I've been trying to dive into some of my Halloween past over at the site. I've got a few more Halloween posts coming up looking at the "new" Ben Cooper style costumes and some other fun goodies. It's a great time of the year.
