I’ll try not to whine.
If I could anyplace on earth this week it would be in beautiful San Diego, California.
Instead I am in Columbus, Ohio.
I used to live in California. I spent 34 of my 43 years in California. San Jose to be precise. I believe it was either 1992 or 1993 that I attended my first San Diego Comic Con (as it was still called), and I went for each year for close to the next decade.
It was amazing. It was magical.
And I miss it like crazy.
It’s not just the programming, or the exhibitor’s hall, or even the toy news…it’s the re-connecting with friends that I only get to see there (moreso since moving to the Midwest) that makes Comic Con such a fantastic experience. I met Jason Geyer and Daniel Pickett, amongst others, in person initially at Comic Con years ago.
So, once again this year I will live vicariously through online coverage, forum discussions, and even suffer through some of G4′s sure-to-be awful live coverage.
So, to those attending I hope that you have an amazing time. I wish I could be there. And maybe, just maybe…next year I will be.
Same here man, I’m bummed to be stuck at home and miss reconnecting in-person to all the online crew. *sigh* maybe next year…
I’ve never been… BUT I’m moving to San Diego by the end of the year, so you’ll all see me next year!!!
hey jeff, cols ohio here too. i was supposed to go to san diego but Skybus folded before I could get tickets. I’ll definitely try to go next year. Never been there but really want to go sometime.
I hear ya, Jeff. I’ve never been, but here’s hoping that next year will be my first!
Peace,
Chip
I’ve lived in Columbus most of my life. Went to San Diego last year for the first time and SDCC was great! Overwhelming and expensive, no doubt, but I thoroughly enjoyed the convention and the city. I will miss it this year and would like to go back sometime soon.
Ohio is NOT the MidWest, it’s east coast.
;p
I’m on the East Coast and I consider Ohio Midwest.
You just have to have a con of your own, Jeff – the Alley Cat Ohio Con. Dress up like a Stormtrooper to work. Ask your wife to take pictures of you with your customers. Get a plastic lightsabre fight going and record it for YouTube. Get some local celebs down for a signing. You might need an exclusive action figure. C’mon – give the SDCC some competition!
