(pardon the craptacular picture, please)
I stumbled across a bunch of Mattel The Dark Knight toys this morning at Wal-Mart (amazingly, the closest Wal-Mart to me which I never find anything at!) and, much to my surprise, I was able to purchase them.
I picked up the Movie Masters 6" Batman, the 5.25" Basic Batman and Bruce Wayne’s Street Coup vehicle which comes with 3-3/4" figures of Bruce Wayne and Batman. Yeah, I pretty much picked up that last one for the 3-3/4" Batman fig. Sick.
It really looks like Mattel is making an effort to give fans (both kids and collectors) what they want this go around. While their Batman Begins line was pretty maligned within the collecting community, the product for The Dark Knight seems to be a step up for the most part (the Bruce Wayne that comes with the Street Coup is pretty sad). And this time, there seems to be a figure size for every taste.
While I suspect many adult collectors are going to stay with the 6" Movie Masters line (done by the awesome Four Horsemen in the scale and style of DCUC), I have to say the Batman sculpt for the 5.25" line is much stronger than the figures from the previous film. It’s really a nice looking figure.
It’s fun to get a 3-3/4" movie Batman figure who’ll eventually stand alongside the Infinite Heroes line when it comes out later this summer. It’s a nice looking figure, ‘though the articulation is lacking. Cut shoulders, no elbows and a T-crotch are strikes against it. I was hoping Mattel would have gone at least with the ball-and-socket style of the 3.5" Speed Racer figures, but they did not. I assume this is the same Batman that will be packed in with the upcoming X-Pandables Playsets. There appears to be a 3-3/4" Joker coming in one of those playsets as well.
This stuff should be everywhere by this weekend.
I’m hoping this is NOT the same 3 3/4″ Batman figure that will be included in the playsets if only because this particular figure only needs enough articulation to fit into the car. That said, I won’t be shocked if it’s the same one either.
I’ll pick up the 6-inch figure as well to go with my 6-inchish DC Direct Batman collection but I really want more 3 3/4″ Movie Master goodness. Hell, I might even buy a Brandon Routh Superman. You know, if it actually looks like Routh and not Jerry O’Connell.
“I have to say the Batman sculpt for the 5.25″ line is much stronger than the figures from the previous film.”
Any chance comparison pics are on the way?
Picked up the movie masters thug. Between him and Harley, my Joker is getting a gang! Now if the 4 H will just sculpt a comic-style Joker worthy of leading it….
Anyhow, great review, fun figs and I really hope I find the chase unmasked Bats.
