I started a thread here on AFI a few days back asking for folks ten most wanted characters in Hasbro’s new Marvel Universe toyline. There’s been a similar thread going on over at Fwoosh, too.
Part of the fun of collecting is the guessing and hoping what characters might be coming down the pipe. Hasbro has already shown in the first few waves that they’re willing to go fairly deep into the Marvel Universe with characters such as the Hand Ninja or Union Jack. Who knows what else they’ve got up their sleeves. Could The Spot or The Impossible Man be possibilities? I wouldn’t rule them out! Actually, The Impossible Man would make me really happy.
So, I thought I’d bring my Marvel’s Most Wanted to the blogosphere to share and garner your comments.
1. Cable – either current or first appearance look
2. Apocalypse – one of my favorite Marvel Villains. Really I want both regular and AoA versions!
3. Nighthawk – always dug him back in the old Defenders days.
4. Man-Thing. Awesome looking muck monster.
5. Planet Hulk – Gladiator Hulk….’nuff said!
6. Nova – current is fine, but I’d really dig his classic look. I think Nova #1 was my first "First Issue" I ever bought. I think.
7. Doctor Strange – a mainstay of the MU. I’m sure we’ll see him sooner than later…
8. Captain Marvel (Mar-vell…Jim Starlin’s run defined cosmic comics)
9. High Evolutionary – (I don’t think he’s ever had a figure before, cool design)
10. BUG!! from Micronauts. He almost became a Marvel Legends figure a few years back under Toy Biz, but now is his chance to be 3-3/4" like he always should be! Back in the late 1970′s I kept hoping Mego would’ve made Bug in their Micronauts line…but, alas, no. Perhaps Hasbro can make it happen.
BUT, after posting my list the other day I realized I needed to add an 11th pick….a very important one for me (which I’m rather embarrassed I forgot about): STEGRON the Dinosaur Man!
See, my very first comic book was Marvel Team-Up #20 featuring Spidey, Black Panther and Stegron. We’ve already got Spidey and the Panther…so I need Stegron!
I was a typical dinosaur-crazed nine-year old boy when MTU20 came out in 1974. I remember wanting this comic mostly because it had a "cool dinosaur guy", but it launched me headlong into my love of comic books.
Fingers crossed.
I’ll be back in a couple days with another 10 Most Wanted for DC Infinite Heroes! Stay Tuned!
My top wish for this line is for a price drop. Until then, I’ll have to keep my collection on the Target pegs and hope no one buys them.
A nice list. On it, Dr. Strange and Mar-vell are high on my list. I still think a toy line based on a Skrull invasion needs a Skrull soldier.
Bug would be cool as would Commander Rann and Marionette. I don’t think they could make Baron Karza and Acroyear but any Micronauts would be cool.
Jeff, I’m right there with ya on Stegron. I used to think he and the Armadillo were just the coolest damn characters around.
Peace,
Chip
I always thought it was funny how much Bug and Ambush Bug look alike. I’m not collecting the MU line, but if they make a Bug figure I’ll buy it. He’ll just be ‘deluxe armor Ambush Bug’ in my collection.
I hear you on the prices! But I think that ship has sailed. The days of getting a figure for $6 are long gone. And don’t mention JLU. I will never understand why they have such devotion! They don’t stand and they have very little articulation. I’m glad so many people enjoy them but I never saw the appeal.
These figures range in price anywhere between $7.99 and $8.99; that’s way too expensive for me! Didn’t the Toybiz Marvel Legends (first couple of waves) run about $9.99 when they first appeared? Drop the price Hasbro! This is ridiculous!
Marvel Legends started at either $6.99 or $7.99 when they first hit in 2002
I was reading your list thinking, “Blah, blah, blah, blah… ” and the I got to the end.
Bug.
Bug?
BUG!
That would be AWESOME! I’m totally on board with that choice. And he’d be life-sized!
Great post, Jeff.
My three top picks are longtime B-listers Jack of Hearts, Nighthawk, and Stingray. The classic versions as seen in the original Marvel Universe Handbooks, natch.
Hawkeye is also a must have right now. I can’t believe they did Clint Barton as Ronin before getting to Hawkeye.
I second the vote for the B-list! I was thinking that after they do Secret Wars, the next comic 2-pack series could be Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, each figure being a classic A-list character paired with somebody more obscure.
Revision of list. I see potential here. While I have a ton of JLU, there are some subsets of the DCU which are not well represented by the line. One of those is the Titans / Teen Titans / Young Justice. Since IH is slightly smaller than JLU, I could see picking up the Titans characters in this line.
.
In IH, we have Nightwing, Flash III, Starfire, Raven, modern Wonder Girl, Supergirl. Cyborg and Arsenal/Red Arrow are supposedly coming. That leaves us:
Beast Boy
Donna Troy
Tempest
Jericho
Kyle Rayner Green Lantern
Robin
Superboy
Impulse / Kid Flash
Blue Beetle
Static
That would make a nice set of Titans.
I’ll make that my current want list for this line.
Sorry, was supposed to be in the IH top 10 list. Please delete these two comments.
