It’s official. I need to find a job.
You see, I’ve been a stay at home daddy for the past couple years since closing down the comic book / game store I owned here in the Columbus, Ohio area back in October 2008. It’s the best job in the world, except the pay stinks.
Here’s my problem. Hasbro is going to own me in 2011.
My main toyline….my first love of toy collecting, so to speak…is GI Joe. Between the awesome Pursuit of Cobra products coming this year and into next, and the Renegades tie-in line later in the year that’s a lot of stuff.
Yeah, but that’s not all. Not even close.
Marvel Universe keeps rockin’ along, showing the world how to do 3-3/4" super-heroes. Plus, there’s these two movies coming out next summer. You may have heard of them. Thor and Captain America. Each will have it’s accompanying toyline that will likely follow the Iron man 2 model and feature movie-based assortments side-by-side with comic-based figures.
Did I mention that Thor and Cap happen to be my two favorite Marvel characters?
Yeah, it’s not lookin’ good for my wallet at all next year. But, it’s looking incredible for my toy shelves!
Hasbro didn’t unveil a whole lot at Comic Con, but it was enough. There are some seriously fantastic figures coming. Captain Mar-vell and Apocalypse get to come off my 10 Most Wanted list, and figures as the Jim Lee Cyclops and Gladiator have be giddy. World War Hulk looks phenomenal.
Anyone who still says that you can’t achieve a realistic level of detail in the 3-3/4" scale needs to a) get glasses and b) take a close look at the work Hasbro is doing with Marvel and with their own GI Joe products. Amazing stuff, really.
Am I gushing? Yeah. I am.
Today, Hasbro put out a Captain America figure from the movie line, and Thor, Odin and Loki from the Thor movie line. Fantastic stuff. These movies and their respective toylines cannot get here fast enough for me. The figures look super-cool to me, and I’m digging the character designs. I can’t wait to see these characters on the big screen next year.
But, man, I need to seriously find a job to be able to afford all this stuff!
i feel your pain in the wallet given all the good stuff coming out by the companies. though for me its mostly dc stuff and the new star wars stuff. for the toy companies are proving they have the wallets of us collectors targeted. with all their stuff coming.
I’m also drooling over Hasbro’s 3.75″ offerings. Maybe all of the sales it’s about to generate will clue Mattel in and they’ll actually do something worthwhile in 3.75. Yeah, right.
I was in San Diego and the Marvel Universe figures look horrible like ususal. Sure their are a few standouts like Planet Hulk Sentinel,Frost Giant but overall they stink. Hasbro needs to put in the effort that they use on the Marvel movie lines on the Marvel Universe line.
Everyone is, of course, entitled to their opinions.
I respectfully disagree. I think Hasbro’s doing an amazing job with MU.
