I can’t believe it’s Comic Con time already! I can’t believe that it’s already been a year since I, along with my wife and daughter, visited that fabled city by the sea.
Last year was my first time back to Comic Con in about 5 years. In that 5 years attendance had doubled. I admit that I was completely overwhelmed by the crowds there. I’m not a big fan of crowds to begin with, so I’ve always had something of a love/hate relationship with conventions. But, last years Comic Con was rough. So much so that I declared on several occasions that it was likely my last visit to Comic Con International.
So, here we are. One year later. I’m sitting behind my computer in my home in rural Delaware, Ohio finding myself wishing I was out in my home state of California, preparing to enter the hallowed halls of the San Diego Convention Center. Yeah, I’m regretting not going. There’s no way it could have happened this year, really, anyway. Too much stuff going on around the old farm here. But, boy, I sure do wish I was going to be there.
Thank goodness for on-the-spot coverage from AFi!
So, what am I hoping to see pop up on my monitor over the next few days?
Some of the things I am most excited about come out of the prolific Four Horsemen Design Studios, and I don’t mean the stellar work they do for Mattel. No, I’m most looking forward to their in-house projects: The Outer Space Men and the recently announced Symbiotech!
Now, the Outer Space Men I’ve already gushed over, but the revelation that the Horsemen are moving ahead with their Symbiotech property has been doing the collector’s dance of joy! In the various FANtastic Exclusive votings I have always voted for Symbiotech over all the other properties such as 7th Kingdom or Gothotropolis. Symbiotech brought back, for me, the sense of awesomeness from one of my all-time favorite toylines: Exo-Squad. I love rider/vehicle combo lines, and the designs for the various Symbiotech characters just rock the socks. So, I’m dying to hear more about the line, and when I can get my hot little hands on it!
…plus, they’ll be showing prototypes for Wave 3 of Outer Space Men and I can’t wait to see who that consists of.
From those fine and confounding folks at Mattel I am nervously and eagerly awaiting some news on the fate of DC Infinite Heroes. Mattel has mentioned they’ve got plans for the 3-3/4" scale…but what? Just a few more days until we find out.
Keeping things small, I’m dying to see what’s on tap for Marvel Universe from Hasbro. Oh how I love this line! I’m looking forward to seeing what the MU Design Team has planned for the rest of 2010 and into 2011!
Also, from the big H, I look forward to any GI Joe and Star Wars news. I don’t know how much there’ll be, especially for GI Joe, since JoeCon was just last month…but any news is good. I expect to hear a bit more about the new GI Joe: Renegades animated series coming in October!
Hopefully there’ll be some surprises, too. I’d love to hear about a line or two that I have no inkling of!
I know I’ll be glued to my iMac monitor as much as possible over the next several days waiting to find out! Thanks in advance to the on-site AFi crew: Dan and Abby, Cantina Dan, and the ever-intrepid Mike "SDComics" Walker for all their hard work and lack of sleep during the convention. It’s appreciated folks!
Just make sure to pick up those exclusives I asked for, okay?
WizKids: Web of Spiderman HeroClix set.
Mattel: DCIH plans. JLU plans. DCUC plans. Brave and Bold.
DC Direct: They just revealed 2 waves of Brightest Day. I’d like to see one other wave from another line.
Hasbro: GIJoe to go with the new cartoon. Marvel stuff.
I doubt we’ll see anything for the new GI Joe cartoon. They said at Joe Con that the Renegades line was for Fall 2011, so there’s another Toy Fair, Joe Con and SDCC before those are supposed to hit stores…
i hope Mattel gives a sneak peek of up coming dcu waves. plus what hasbro has in store for marvel universe and the movies and the gijoe and star wars like if anything big will follow the atat.
