I finally found remnants of DC Universe Classic Series 2 the other day.  Here are my reviews of the two figures I bought…

Black Manta: There never needs to be another Black Manta figure.

Superman Blue: There never needs to be another Superman Blue figure.

The End

I don’t even like Superman Blue as a concept (who does?); I bought him because I want Gorilla Grodd, but it’s an awesome figure.  If you’re going to sculpt a Superman Blue figure, this was the way to do it.

I didn’t buy Superman Red, though.  Sorry Mattel, we all have our limits.

So, two down, three to go.

And now comes New York Comic-Con.

I have to say, there was a bit a disappointment for me.  The line-up for DCUC Series 4 (Ares, Batman Beyond, Captain Atom, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman) sounds great.  We get Perez versions of the Greeks, another Super Powers hero, a Charlton hero, and, well…Batman Beyond.

Sign me up.

The disappointment for me if the "Collect and Connect" build-a-figure.  I thought for sure it would be a classic, jungle girl Giganta.  Instead, we get the Total Justice version of Despero which, though I’m sure The Four Horsemen will knock the sculpt out of the park (UPDATE: I’ve now seen the proto and yeah, they did), is a figure that you can still probably find at the KB Toys in the mall no one goes to anymore.

It’s possible Giganta is planned for further down the road, I don’t know, but I’m not sure I’ll buy a figure like Batman Beyond if I don’t want the BAF.

Now for the reverse.

This morning, we learned there will be a wave of DCUC exclusive to Wal-Mart.  The line-up is Amazo, Atom, Black Lightning, Eradicator, and The Riddler.  The BAF is Metallo, who I like, but not enough to buy four characters I’m not really crazy about.

Oh well, I thought, I’ll get Riddler but, even at that, I’d rather have him in his classic jumpsuit.

Then, late this afternoon, some pics emerged from the NYCC showroom.

My friends, this…

…is f@#king sick.

Riddler looks awesome, too.

You win this round, Mattel.

Now get me my Doris.
