I passed on the Bat Sub when it first came out.  But I had a Target gift card eating a hole in my wallet shortly after Christmas and the Bat Copter caught my eye.  I loved the Beetle Ship (see previous review).  The parts were fun.  This had lots of parts.  And seemed to reuse the central module from the sub.  Bonus, it was on sale.  I think I paid $16.99 for the Beetle Ship.  The Bat Copter rang up at $12.99.  It was my kind of deal.

The Batman that comes with this is not very remarkable except for the fact that it reminded me how cheap the vehicles of this line actually are.  If a figure with one accessory is $8, and a figure with more accessories is $11, as they were at the time, the figure must be worth about $7.  17 – 7 means I paid about $10 for the Beetle Ship. 13 – 7 means I paid about $6 for the Bat Copter.  That is right, the vehicle cost me less than the figure.

The Bat Copter dissected into parts:

Landing gear, wings, body, missile, tail,  propeller.

The accessories that come with the Bat Copter are different enough to warrant purchase just for them.  Combining them with the Beetle Ship accessories makes them even better.

The Bat Scorpion!

There is one odd accessory in the group.  The tail has the connecting piece recessed inside the part.  This makes it virtually impossible to connect to any part other than the one intended.  This severely limits its play value despite it being very cool.  The fact that you cannot connect it to Plastic Man is disheartening.

The sad tale(tail) of the Bat Copter.

Interestingly enough, it took the arrival of the Proto Bat Bot (review here) to realize that I already had the piece you can connect it to from the Transforming Bat Cycle (review here).

Then there are the things that just happen with this line when various pieces end up near each other…

Firestorm uses the landing gear to go skiing, while Batman uses them for snow shoes!

The Copter and Cycle combine to become: the Bat Tadpole!

All I ask of Mattel is that future product for this line continue to give us new and unusual pieces to expand our build-able Brave and Bold world.  (One new character per wave would be nice too.)
