Marvel Comics’ big event for the summer is "Secret Invasion".  In their closest tie in yet, WizKids has released their newest HeroClix expansion of the same name.  And HeroClix Secret Invasion delivers.

Last night I played in a sealed event at my local store.  Everyone buys two boxes of 5 pieces each (10 pieces total) and builds their army from the pieces they pull from those two boxes.  My pulls included both Namor and an Atlanean Warrior.  It seemed karma to play them together.  I chose Spiderman and Tombstone to round out my team.
150 Namor
035 Atlantean Warrior
050 Spiderman
058 Tombstone
——-
293 Total.
The total had to be less than 300 points, which forced me to make difficult decisions. After I had chosen Namor, at 150 points, I could not fit Iron Man at 188 points on the team.  It was one or the other.  Iron Man would have to wait for another day.  I also considered Elektra at 80 points, but would have had to reduce my force to 3 pieces. I really like having an extra piece.

My son chose the following team.
142 Hercules
+03 feat Alies
050 Sharon Carter (shield agent)
070 Iron Fist
+06 feat Vendetta
——-
271 Total.
Notice that he his total is 29 points short.  This sometimes happens in sealed games when you get no low point characters to round out your team.

Round 1.
Erik W. team – Namor, Spiderman, Human Torch.
yeah, this team almost mirrored my own.  There were actually 3 of us fielding Namor and Spiderman together.  I started.  I moved Namor up, picking up a heavy object (heavy objects add 2 damage to your attack).  Spiderman also moved up. Tombstone did too.  I got in the first shot.  My Namor connected with his Namor, delivering several clicks of damage.  He attempted to retaliate with his Namor.  I quickly realized that even several clicks down, Namor is a dangerous piece.  After a few misses, his Namor connected and my Namor was hurting.  Another hit and my Namor was gone.  I realized that his Namor was also on his last legs (last few clicks), and brought in one of my other pieces to finsih him off.  We were tied.  Spiderman vs Spiderman waged on, while Tombstone battled with the Human Torch.  Not sure what happened to the Atlantean Warrior.  The game ended in a slight win for me.

Round 2.
Randy. team – Ms.Marvel Skrull, Gravity, Arachne.
Like in round 1, I moved forward and picked up objects.  MsMarvel, Gravity, and Arachne moved to a small patch of hindering terrain.  The hindering terrain hid MsMarvel from ranged attacks due to her stealth power.  Randy used Gravity’s telekinesis to move MsMarvel near Namor.  MsMarvel used Outwit to remove Namor’s defensive power, then used Hypersonic Speed (think Flash) to attack and then run back to the hindering spot.  Rinse and repeat, Namor was gone.  And that repeated for Spiderman.  I got Tombstone in place and was able to take out Gravity.  MsMarvel was too strong and I lost all my men.

Round 3.
Dave. team – Cloak + Dagger Duo, Capt America, Doctor Octopus, Arachne, Moliod.
Once again, I moved up, picking up objects.  This time I kept Namor protected, placing him near blocking terrain (can’t move through it, can’t stand on it) and placing the Atlantean Warrior next to him as a block.  Spiderman moved up along the left side of the map to a hindering terrain section.  Dave moved Cloak+Dagger, Arachne, and Doc Oct up.  Cloak+Dagger were within Namor’s charge range, so charge he did, smacking them for 6 (4 + 2 for the object) damage.  Then using his flurry, he hit again for 4 more damage.  Somehow I had missed that Namor has Flurry until now.  Cloak +Dagger was down and out.  Dave moved Doc Oc to face Spiderman.  Capt Am charged Namor, but missed.  Arachne and the Moloid also moved in on Namor.  Spiderman and Doc Oc traded blows.  Tombstone moved to where he could shoot Capt Am.  Tombstone took shots at Cap, frequently missing.  Namor hit Cap, then next turn hit Arachne.  They eventually went down.  Then my forces moved in on Doc Oc.  Doc took out my Atlantean Warrior, but then he went down too.

That’s how it went.  3 battles.  1 close win, 1 loss, 1 win.  Randy went on to win the event.  Afterward the best part happened.  Sean, Dave, Steven and I traded and gave each other pieces.  I added several to my set while  helping them to fill in their collections as well.  For example, I traded Elektra and got Dr. Strange.  The Secret Invasion has begun.

Let me know what you think of this report.  Would you like to see more?  Does it make you more interested in the pieces?  The game?  Does it need more detail?
