I went to see the Green Lantern movie last evening.  I’m not going to give a critical review here.  There are tons of those already.  I just really enjoyed the whole experience and wanted to share that.

I have a friend who likes to see action movies, but sometimes wants a buddy to go see them with.  Over the past few years we have hooked up to see both Transformers movies and the GI Joe movie among others.  I had been meaning to contact him about seeing Green Lantern.  In fact, he had contacted me about seeing Thor a few weeks ago, but I was busy, so he ended up going with someone else.  My loss, I still have not seen Thor.  Thankfully, he called Monday night.

Tuesday is cheap movie night around here.  $6 instead of the normal rate (How sad is it that I no longer know the normal price for a movie?).  So it was decided we would attend last night.  Then we had another issue.  All of a sudden there were more people going than would fit in one car.  So we decided to meet there.

-Green Lantern Rings-

I took the early bus home from work so I could have a few extra minutes before the movie.  My son asks, “Dad, where is your other Green Lantern ring?”.  “Don’t you have 2 Green Lantern shirts?  My sister could wear your other one and I’ll wear my own.”  So we did.  He had to remind me that I had a shirt of Kyle Rayner’s original logo.  Then we went hunting for the ring I had not seen in ages.  But we found both.  My son was going to wear a Blue Lantern ring so my daughter could wear a green one, but the green one – in fact all of them – were too big for her fingers.  She opted to go without a ring.

We met our friends at the theater.  We got great seats near the middle both left-to-right and front-to-back.  We all seemed to enjoy the movie.  Including the two women in the group.  My son and I talked afterwords and discussed the cool things that were “stuck in there”, like Carol’s call sign being “Sapphire”.

On the way out we spotted the Green Lantern movie cutout diorama and spent quite a while admiring its details.  From the characters to the interlac language writing on the giant ring shaped battery (Interlac!  Introduced in the Legion of Super-Heroes comics several decades ago.)  Then we came up with an idea that had to happen.  Us in front of the diorama.  And with the help of my friend who had a camera, it did.

-Wearing our Green Lantern Shirts-

PS.  I loved the movie.  Part of it was the movie.  Part of it was going in character.  And part of it was just spending the evening with my family and friends.  Next up – Transformers 3.
