I know we’ve said it before in the forums, but it bears repeating every so often. An alternate place to look for – and actually find the toys you are looking for - is at your supermarket.
I just got back from my Stop & Shop supermarket. In their toy isle I found:
DCUC Hawkman and Mr. Miracle.
JLU Blue Devil in multiple.
SuperFriends basic Superman, Deluxe Batman and Superman.
Fighting figures – two different packs with Two Face in both.
and some Batman movie figures.
- and that’s just Mattel DC.
There were Star Wars figures and Light Sabres. Marvel Super Hero Squad including the larger figure sets with Fing Fang Foom. Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Etc.
So next time you have to go food shopping, or to the drug store for that matter, don’t forget to consider it as a toy run as well. You just might find that slightly older toy you missed out on a few months back. I remember hitting all the Walgreens’ I could back when I started collecting Ben 10 figures.
Then there is JLU Rocket Red. JLU Rocket Red was first reported from a Long’s Drug store, and I got my JLU Rocket Red at Stop and Shop.
And if you happen to need this guy (below), they still have a number of him on the shelf !

I need better grocery stores. I’ve never seen anything worth more than a dollar in a grocery store toy aisle.
Boston’s Super Market’s have great toy sections, my new home in San Diego has crap at the super market.
Super Markets here suck. Hardly anything cool toy-wise in them, which is why I shop at Walmart. At least there I’ll see *something*.

Every now and then the chain drugstores surprise me as well … Rite Aid in particular (although the figures are usually spectacularly overpriced.)
I figure Walmart has enough shoppers and the other stores can use my business. In addition to Stop and Shop, I also frequent a regional chain called Benny’s, the closest thing I can liken it to is Western Auto, a lot of car stuff plus a little bit of everything except food.
This is NOT news.
Everyone here knows to always check the toy aisle at all retail stores. We are not new at this.
We also know that whatever is going on at Stop & Shop might not necessarily be going on at Albertsons, or wherever. So this isn’t even sound advice.

Not everyone knows everything about toy collecting. So its good to bring stuff up every so often for the new guys. This blog might inspire someone to try a store they had not been to in a while and find something good.

As for the quality of the blogs? Blogs are NOT news. News goes on the front page. If you look to the right, you can see I’ve done about 60 blogs over the last year plus, of which you’ve decided 2 of the last 3 are bad. I’d say that’s a pretty good average. Might I suggest sitting down for a while in a quiet room and just relaxing. Or maybe sitting in a park and watching some puppies at play in the dog run. ‘Cuz it seems pretty obvious you need to calm the f— down and stop taking things (yourself included) too seriously.
On the other hand, maybe you’re just a hopeless d-bag. In which case… I dunno… just shut up. Go be angry with the world somewhere else. If this site isn’t to your liking, don’t read it.
I remember years ago getting the harder to find original Batman: the Animated Series figures at a grociery store. I seem to remember getting Riddler and Penguin. And years ago when I lived in Maine, I found many hard to get Playmates Star Trek Next Generation figures. Meanwhile, recently my grocery store got me a Movie Masters Dark Knight Joker figure… I keep looking for Two Face!

Not sure how far they reach but out here in Phoenix we have Fry’s, in particular Fry’s Marketplace. Their toy sections rock!
No Stop & Shops in my neck of the woods. The only place to find anything these days is Target. A long time ago I found a Batman the Animated Series Catwoman in a CVS in Telford but that was it. That was quite a find, but alas, those days are long gone. Nice post Superfriend.
Stop and Shop is where I found a chunk of my DCUC collection.
The Kroger grocery stores here in the Nashville, Tennessee area have been carrying DCUC for some time now. However, I’ve only found figures from Wave 1 (Penguin, Orion, Demon Etrigan) and Wave 3 (Green Lantern, Robin, Nightwing, Sinestro variant). They run about $9.99, which is a bargain considering Walmart, Target, and Toys-R-Us sell them for the $10.99-$12.99 range.
I don’t have great luck at grocery stores here in LA, but I always hit the drug stores. I also found Rocket Red at Long’s Drugs back in the day. And just a few weeks back I found the discontinued Super Friends Hawkman at Rite Aid.
If no one cares about this blog then how come the comments are already in the double digits within hours of it being posted?
I am kicking myself for not getting that SF Hawkman at Rite Aid about a month ago!
I got my JLU Rocket Red at Stop and Shop too! Their prices are about even (and in a couple cases even less) than dept. stores! I’ve seen JLU 3 packs there for only $9.
They stock DCUC Fighting Figures at random Rite-Aid locations around here. Also see Brave and the Bold but Wave 1.
Never any actual DCUC 6″ though.
The bigger grocery stores like Giant only get Hot Wheels and random Marvel stationary. But people have seen DCUC further up north. Everything happens up north right under my nose, but who wants to drive 20 miles round trip just to find out>
