Unbelievable!

The Cubs are my team, my family’s team, but I’ve always had a soft spot for the Colorado Rockies. Their first season here was the same year I moved to Denver, and I remember skipping class to go to Rockies games. A warm summer day, the hapless Rockies, the knowledge that the rest of your sucker classmates were stuck inside, working hard on projects while you enjoy a few beers in the sun - that’s a tough afternoon to beat.

But they just could never put it together. Blake Street Bombers?  Speed & Smallball?  Mike Hampton?  They could never get any of those plans to work. Until now.  Before the season, the Rockies would have been lucky to finish 3rd, happy even. I don’t think they ever imagined they’d win 14 of their last 15 games to clinch a playoff spot. No one did. But that”s the magic of baseball. Strange things can happen – look at the Mets.

That tiebreaker game tonight might be one of the best baseball games I’ve seen – ever.  Crazy, just crazy. I thought they were done when Julio gave up 1000 runs and when Hoffman came in…but they pulled it out. This Rockies team just might have the momentum to do some good things in this playoff series. Tulowitzki – Rookie of the Year, hands down.  Holliday locked up that MVP, even if he did blunder that catch in the 8th and didn’t actually touch home plate to score the winning run. Who cares?

How cool is it that Todd Helton is going to his first playoff game EVER in his 10-year career? Gotta give them credit, they put it together and deserve to be in the playoffs.

ROCKTOBER BABY!!
