This morning I saw a story of an amazing occurrence that happened in Denver yesterday; some kind, anonymous soul had left a literal pot of gold next to a bus stop bench on St. Patrick’s Day.  Inside was $50 in gold dollar coins, and an extra $3.17 representing the date.  There was also a note that read:

"Happy St. Patrick’s Day

… Because there is not enough magic in the world.

Because I have many wonderful things in my life, and some of them feel like magic to me.

Because I used to wish that would find a pot of gold.

Because I would have been thrilled to find this.

Have a great day."

It is little things like this that can make all the difference.  Now, some of you may say “fifty dollars?? That’s not ‘little’!” But $50, $20, $5, it doesn’t really matter – the idea that a total stranger would be so selfless and thoughtful as to put this all together and leave it for another, that – that – is the key. Random acts of kindness like this can make a huge impact on other’s lives.  The guy that found this will remember this for the rest of his life.  And he’s vowed to “pay it forward”, and who knows what kind of positive chain reaction this will result in.  What an amazing act of generosity.

This is one of the greatest stories I have read in a while. It give me hope that there are still good people in the world. And it should give all of you hope, as well.  I encourage each and every one of you to take advantage of every opportunity to make a small difference in someone else’s world.  Whether it’s an anonymous gift, a complimentary lunch, or a simple smile, you’ll realize the difference you make may not be so small after all.
