Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Time.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, CNN.com, AssociatedPress.com Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love Captain Action BUT this is just another ho-hum “variant” really offering nothing much new. Stick a new hat on him and put him in a white box for $75 and call it a variant – Really? Had they finally announced an Action Boy under that new beret (since he was the one who actually wore it) then I’d say that CA Enterprises are finally moving forward with the line. But there hasn’t been anything really new since the Iron Man & Wolverine costumes that came out way over a year ago. This line is so slow that it’s hard to keep consumer interest. They have really got to speed things up – where are the long announced DC line of costumes? What happened to Red Skull? Enough of these lame “variants” CA Enterprises and release some actual new product or at the very least give fans a production update.

Wow! That’s an extremely LAME and overpriced exclusive. But then again this is the same company that slapped a cape on their Loki figure set and tried to pawn that off as a con exclusive as well. As to the DC line of uniforms for CA don’t hold your breath. Rumor is that since TRU’s support of the 12″ line dried up that the DC uniforms were axed. Hence the move to the WAY overpriced Action Girl 12″ figure and the 3 3/4″ CA figure lines.

I haven’t been disappointed yet with any product CA Enterprises has put out. I’ve been following these guys since they started and it’s pretty amazing how much they have grown their business. The action figures, comics, cards, high end collectibles, etc–it’s all great quality stuff! Count me in for this.
p.s.-would love to see a 4 issue mini series with interior art by John Byrne. Loved the cover he did for CA a couple years ago.

I think that beret is pretty sweet! I know the CA guys are all about quality over quantity, and when the new costumes come out, I will be psyched! I’m glad that they are still keeping the good Captain’s name out there. I looked up the trading card set, 50 cards is a pretty good accessory. Holding out hope for the Dr Evil/ Joker costume. That will be awesome!
