Captain Action Announces Photo Contest

Earlier this week our pals over at Captain Action announced an awesome photo contest full of fabulous prizes.   Read the details below and get snapping!


We’re inviting all Captain Action fans to share pictures of the new Captain Action & Dr. Evil figures, as well as Marvel Costume sets. They can be posed in dioramas, action scenes, with props or without props. They can be drenched in drama or sparkled with humor.
And winner will receive a special Action Pack: complete with a the Sideshow/Electric Tiki Captain Action Limited Edition Statue, an autographed comic and a Captain Action ID case, courtesy of Titan Merchandise.


Take a photo featuring Captain Action and/or Dr. Evil along with figures disguised as any of the Marvel Super Heroes from the uniform sets (Spider-Man, Capt. America, Thor or Loki). Figures from other toy companies are allowed but discouraged.
Photographs may be composed on miniature sets, full-size sets, indoors or outdoors. Photographic themes can be, but need not be limited to, realistic, fantasy-based, historic or modern. Contestants are urged to only submit photographs in focus, and to be clear with the ideas and themes portrayed.
Contestants may use Photoshop for touch-ups, but extensive use is discouraged. Word balloons, thought balloons, logos and text are not permitted.
Photos must be at least 4 by 6 inches at 72 dpi (288×432 pixels). Submitted photographs can be landscape or portrait (horizontal or vertical).

Contestants can post photos on the Captain Action Facebook wall at before February 15, 2013. Contestants are encouraged to also post tagged photos on their own wall, but this is not required.
Only one entry is allowed per person. Multiple entries will be disqualified.

Winners will be selected based on creativity, originality and good taste by a panel of judges.
Grand Prize : An “Action Pack” consisting of:
(1) Captain Action Limited Edition Statue (Electric Tiki)
(1) Autographed Captain Action comic
(1) Captain Action ID case (Titan Merchandise)
Five First Prizes : Autographed Comics
(5) Runners Ups will each receive an autographed Captain Action comic


Winners will be notified no later than February 21, 2013.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on,,, Boing-Boing,, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
