Italian Capitano Azione Limited Edition Reproduction Revealed


New York, N.Y. (July 3, 2011) Captain Action Enterprises, LLC today announced 2012 San Diego Comic-Con variant plans: a reproduction of the rare Italian version of Captain Action, Capitano in Azione.

Originally released in the 1960s’ by the Italian toy manufacturer Baravelli, these Italian toys have become a sought-after collectible.  Baravelli also produced licensed toys including G.I. Joe, Batman, and even Ed Sullivan’s Topo Gigio.

The new Capitano in Azione comes in a retro style box, with an authentic costume, historical brochure and a new item, an Italian Beretta pistol.  The Capitano in Azione Limited Edition Variant Figure list price is $120.00.

The new Capitano in Azione Limited Edition Reproduction will be available exclusively at Comic-Con International from Action Figure Xpress.  Collectors are invited to visit their booth, #3345 on the SDCC show floor, or pre-order online at  To ensure collectability, an extremely limited quantity of this SDCC variant was produced.

Action Figure Xpress will also have a limited quantity of standard Captain Action Deluxe action figures autographed by comics legend and package artist Joe Jusko.

Recently relaunched, Captain Action has sparked fan and collector interest with toys, comic books, apparel and collectibles.

More surprises are to be announced at the Captain Action panel at San Diego Comic-Con.  Panelists include SDCC guest of honor Joe Jusko and Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide publisher J.C. Vaughn.  The panel is scheduled for Thursday, July 12th at 2:30 -3:30 in room 24ABC.

Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice.
