Character set to launch Classic Doctor Who range
April 22, 2008

Fans of all eras of Doctor Who can look forward to an incredible range of classic Doctor Who figures and monsters being launched in the UK by Character Options later this year.

Recreate scenes from the classic series of Doctor Who with the poseable action figures. Each figure pack comes with a different collectable part of the giant K-1 robot from the fourth Doctor’s first story in 1974.  When all eight packs are collected, the giant robot will be complete.

Classic figures include Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Colin Baker.  Other figures and monsters include a Sea Devil (1972), Zygon (1975), Magnus Greel & Mr Sin (1977), SV7 and D84 (1977).

Also being launched is a Doctor Who 5 inch Classic Dalek Set – this set of three poseable Classic Daleks includes Daleks from The Dead Planet, (1963), The Planet of the Daleks, (1973) and Genesis of the Daleks (1975).

As master toy licensee Character has enjoyed immense success alongside BBC Worldwide through its Doctor Who range of products and predicts a hugely positive response to the new collection, which is due to launch in August.

The Classic range is due to launch in the UK in August 2008 – dates and styles are subject to change.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

  • [...] Action Figure Insider has reported that Character Operations will be releasing a new set of Doctor Who action figures this August in the UK. The cool thing is that these figures deal with Classic Who. Not only that, but each figure pack comes with a piece of the K-1 robot from Tom Baker’s first serial, Robot. When you collect all the figures you can then assemble the K-1. Pretty cool, if you ask me. They are also creating a figure set of classic Daleks that are five inches high and posable. Well, as posable as a Dalek can be I guess. For the full article as well as pictures of the figures, click here. [...]
