DCSH Doomsday
DCSH Bane
DCU Etrigan

I wanted a Doomsday that was larger. Nothing wrong with the 4H sculpt, just scale-wise he isn’t much bigger than Supes.

I lifted off all the bone; kept the head and the hands from the DCSH version. I used Bane’s upper torso on Etrigan’s legs, which provided the extra height he needed. I sculpted his midsection and boots from exopy. The center bone on his chest and torn shorts were sculpted from left-over plastic I had from Etrigan’s cape and Azrael’s flame blades. I used rubber bands to make the seam and cuffs on his shorts.

Paul Kirk was a fairly easy custom, he was made using a DCUC Red Tornado, I removed the cape, puttied the arrow on his head, and handed him over to my customizing partner ReverseJack, who gave him that snazzy paint job!

DCU Batman head, cape and lower legs
DCU Black Manta arms, torso and upper legs

I was going for a cross between Kingdom Come and 52. Starting from the head down, shaved down the Batman head, used Rubber bands for his harness. Cut the pellets off the DCU Batman belt and attached them to the harness. I also used some sliced rubber in between the pellets. The chest emblem was cut from rubber and the robin was sculpted as was the glove tops. The belt came from a 1st series Mattel Batman, the buckle came from an accessory from that same line. I cut some more rubber to make the bottom of his tunic. Painted and sealed. I used the Grapple from the DCU Batman and cut it down to size and added the robin head to the point of the boomerang.

THE FLASH was made using a Superman base which was smoothed over with resin and I used custom-made vinyl decals for the lightning bolts.  The head and boot wings are from other Flash figures.

While I really enjoy the DCUC Crime Stopper Batman, the figure struck me as a tad bulky overall. Growing up on the Neal Adams and Marshall Rogers vision of Batman, I prefer my Bats to be a bit on the leaner side, and to have a little bit of vampire drama mixed in with his cape as well.

To help achieve this, I removed the original torso section of the Crime Stopper Batman and replaced it with the slimmer torso from a DCUC Black Manta. The cape is taken from a DC Direct Justice League of America Batman figure, while the belt is taken from a DC Direct Crisis Batman figure. I had originally planned on using a Mego Batman belt, but the Crisis Batman belt seemed a better fit overall. Finally, the head is reworked from a cast of my own custom Neal Adams Batman figure from a few years back. The more narrow torso really helps capture that classic 1970′s Batman look and feel, and the cape was a surprisingly good fit, needing only a little reworking on the Manta neck to achieve a proper fit.

While it’s still a tad bulky to be a true 1970′s Batman, I’m much happier with my Detective Bats custom. Some people like Bats smiling, some like him dark and gritty. Me? I’m all about the dark detective look, a man who’s not only strong, but lean and acrobatic as well.

I have been wanting to make New Captain America since I first saw the Alex Ross artwork.

RECIPE:

DCUC series 1 Red Tornado’s body.

Black_Arachnis ML FO Captain America’s head cast.

ML FO Captain America’s shield and belt.

XMC Air Strike Wolverine’s hands.

ML FO Punisher’s Knife, gun holster and knife holster.

The gun came from a random 99 cents store police officer figure. I used Vallejo Game Color Storm Blue, Testors Model Master Flat Black, Flat White, Insignia Red, and a mixture of Wormth Tint Skin , Tan and Dark Tan colors.

This is a DC Superheroes-style HAWKMAN using a DCSH Superman as the base and DC Direct Hawkman wings and mace. I first removed the cape smoothed over Superman’s back with resin and sculpted the mask. The headwings are from the same DCD Hawkman figure. Next I drilled out 2 holes in the back and used a metal rod to pin the wings in. Cut vinyl strips were used for the wing harness and a custom decal of the hawk symbol was made on the Epson printer.
