Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining…
April 14, 2008
Well it’s post Toy Fair time. As this is my 1st blog here at AFI I thought not only would it be appropriate to discuss Toy Fair, but also for those who don’t know me to take this opportunity to look into the inter-workings of my brain.

Toy Fair is not only the time of year that I get really excited about the new toys for 2008, but it’s also the time of year for the yearly ritual that I swiped from Judge Judy, called "Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining"

You see at the beginning of every year, after I spend WAY too much money around the holidays, I always tell myself I’m gonna cut back on toys over the next year. This is all fine a dandy for about 6 weeks until about mid February when the new pics from Toy Fair hit. Last year, I was bound and determined to cut back and not buy as much stuff. Not only did I need to save some $$$, I was running out of shelf space. I already collect way too many lines including G.I. Joe, Marvel Legends, DC Direct, Dr Who, Hellboy (comic book figures), JLU, Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars (both Hasbro & Sideshow) to name a few. So I went though the list of all the cool new stuff on the horizon and asked myself what I could live without. Here is the list of Toys I thought I could live without in 2007: Legendary Heroes, DCUC, Battlestar Galactica, UK Harry Potter figures and Star Wars figures of characters that I already have(I mean damn how man Darth Vader figures does one really need). Now most of there were NEW lines that I hadn’t previously collected so I thought to myself this would be easy. Like every year this was a lie.

So how did I do you ask.

Well yet again, like every year, I failed miserably. I was able to stay away from Potter (although it was tough after Jeff Cope’s review) and Battlestar Galactica…sort of. I’ve stayed away from the 6" inch line, but just started buying the minimates, cause dang their cute and take up less space. ALL those other lines now live of my shelf and man they look cool. The point of all this is that I lie to myself every year in hope to cut back, but I can’t help it, I love action figures too dang much. I’m lucky enough that I have 2 rooms in my house that I can display my collection. Therefore I don’t buy stuff and put it directly into storage. I get to display it and enjoy it. So until this changes I’ll go though this yearly ritual and at the end of the year I’ll be look back and laugh about it.  So what’s on my list of toys I think I can live without on 2008. Here ya go:  Indiana Jones (both Hasbro & Sideshow), Sideshow GI Joe, 4" Mattel DC heroes, Dr Who Classics, Torchwood, and try again to cut way back on Star Wars figures, including characters that I already have and non-movie figures.

2008 is gonna be a tough year, especially with the Indy stuff. Cause I love Indiana Jones, plus Hasbro’s making some sweet playsets, and man I love me some playsets. Catch me next year for "Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining 2009" and I’ll let you know how I did.

Before I sign off, this blog would not be complete if I didn’t take a second to thank Dan and Jason and for letting me play in their sandbox. I’m really looking forward to being a member of the "Men of Action" team. I’ve been a BIG fan of these guys for a while now and I’m truly honored to be a part of AFI.

Until next time..
