Evolutions: Ewoks
March 26, 2013

BLOGevoWicket-openAn action figure anthropologist’s work is never done. It was only two trips around the sun ago that we examined the evolutionary links between modern humans and our diminutive ancestor, the Ewok. We presented this theory through the example of one Ewok in particular: Wicket W. Warrick. But recently a more complete fossil record has been excavated.

Our baseline model for the study of Ewok parumplasticus populus biology is:

Domain   |  Toys
Kingdom   |  Star Wars
Phylum   |  Vintage
Class   |  Little Plastic People
Order   |  Articulated
Family   |  Kenner
Genus   |  Three and Three Quarter Inch
Species   |  Basic Figures

There are eight specimen that meet this criteria. The high ratio of Ewoks in the Star Wars vintage Little Plastic People community does not go unnoticed. The specific eras of those eight vintage Ewoks charts as follows:

Chief Chirpa – 1983 ROTJ (65 Card Back)
Logray – 1983 ROTJ (65 Card Back)
Teebo – 1984 ROTJ (77 Card Back)
Wicket – 1984 ROTJ (77 Card Back)
Lumat – 1984 ROTJ (79 Card Back)
Paploo – 1984 ROTJ (79 Card Back)
Romba – 1985 POTF
Warok – 1985 POTF

Microevolution is this anthropologist’s preferred method of describing a character who has had multiple figures within a line. Given that the modern Star Wars line is closing in on a twenty year run many characters have multiple parumplasticus populus iterations. Lets take a look at the examples of microevolution within the Ewok subspecies.

Wicket & Logray  |  1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame Assortment
This Ewok two-pack was a welcome addition to the nascent modern Star Wars figure line.

Teebo  |  2002 Power of the Jedi
Four years was a long time to wait before getting another Ewok. Finally the awesome POTJ series brought us an Ewok with superior sculpting and articulation. The scale was not yet quite right, however.

Over the last few years we have witnessed a steady surge in Ewok parumplasticus populus evolution. Great leaps have been made with accurate scale and advanced articulation. Excited anthropologists sat back with grins watching evolutions take place for all of the eight forefather Ewoks. Finally, towards the end of 2012, the “Vintage Collection’s” last wave was made available online and included the last original-eight Ewok still needing to evolve: Lumat.

Cool article. I collect the ewoks for one purpose and one purpose only: To be targets for my Imperial forces! ‘Cause there’s no way in hell those stupid fuzzballs would have won that battle!
That being said, they’re still cooler than Jar Jar.

nice article though surprised the few ewoks figures that were made for the cartoon was not included. though wicket figures still to this day look a little creepy

Oh brickskull, you will find that it is you who are mistaken, about a great many things. The Ewoks did win that battle. I know. I saw it. Ferocious Ewoks decimated the stormtrooper armor with their massively destructive Endor boulders and Endor rock tipped spears. Endor rock is armor piercing. They slaughtered the empire’s soldiers, just as they would quickly slaughter your favorite rust bucket.

    Yupyup! Yupyup!
