Forget About 31″ Action Figures! Jakks Pacific is Thinking Bigger! #TF14
February 21, 2014

Jakks Pacific has had a lot of success with their line of licensed 31″ action figures from properties such as Star Wars and Man of Steel, but clearly even that is not big enough.

In their showroom at Toy Fair 2014 they had a prototype for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Michelangelo figure that was a whopping 48 inches tall!  As of this writing they are still shopping the figure around for a buyer, and they haven’t committed to any team member past Mikey, but you have to admit it would be pretty cool to be able to own an almost “life-sized” Ninja Turtle action figure!

More information from the Jakks press kit:

Everyone’s favorite Ninjutsu practicing, pizza eating and skateboarding mutant teenager comes to life in the GIANT 48 Inch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Michelangelo from JAKKS Pacific. Michelangelo stands 48.5 inches tall with nine points of articulation and is ready for action. Opening his shell reveals a secret storage space for fans to hold all of their ninja secrets! Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on,,, Boing-Boing,, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

  • Eric Nixon says:

Who is this for, really? It’s going to cost a fortune, and likely just sit there and will never be played with. I really only see this selling to adult collectors and parents who don’t remember how toys work.

    • Mark says:

You obviously don’t know this company. They make the 3′ tall Darth Vader and Superman you’ve probably seen at a TRU or other stores. They sold those massive toys along with others for under $50, If this does get made, you know they’d have to do all 4 turtles, and I’d be surprised if it was more then $75, And half of the cost is in plastic, and the rest is licencing fees and profit margin.

      • Eric Nixon says:

And $75 for this is a plastic toy like this is a fortune. And $300 for all four. And again, how would you even play with it? And those three foot Man of Steel Superman figure at on my local Walmart shelves for months. They looked to have sold horribly.
