I just finished watching this with my son for the tenth or fifteenth time, and I'm still amazed how brilliant this film is. The flawless, stylish animation & the '50s pop culture references are great - the fear of the Cold War, the "duck and cover" school-film, the sci-fi television shows...so classicly cool. And that scene where he's flying up to meet the missle..."Sup-er-man"...*sniff*...And of course, the Toys - I still remember trying to decide to snag the 12" IG at the store, but foolishly putting it back thinking I could get it later. So much for that idea...I never saw it again. I think(?) Mr. Geyer has one of these, could be wrong. Anyone else here have one? How great would it be to see a sequel to this? Or at least a re-release so as to bring us more merchandise. Imagine all the cool figures we could see with 6 more years of toy-technology since the film opened...talking, walking, assembling, transforming...but I'm sure Vin Diesel would want more $$$ for the use of his voice now! So who else would be up for some new Iron Giant toys?

I have a small one on a shelf at work, but also never saw the 12" one. What is truly amazing is that I haven't seent his since it was in the theaters, but had bought the dvd when it came out and forgot about it. Last night I was looking at my dvd shelf and it caught my eye, and I sat down and watched it! Totally amazing coincidence... Now, while i love traditionally animated films, and this is a great one, for some reason the WB animation team's stuff always looks the same to me. While Disney usually screams "movie!", WB whimper's "tv." Maybe it's me, but in light of the great work Bird did on the Incredibles, I couldn't help thinking that this would have been a perfect film for he full CGI treatment. So much machinery, the 50s retro stuff, etc.

I got a 12" one when the movie came out, through Amazon, I believe. With the little voice button and the magnetic hogarth. Still have it, sitting on my painting table. He's going to stand proudly next to my Galactus(when I get him).

It's bigger than 12" It's 18". Mine hangs out with my 18" Spiderman and Rom in my collection. I'm not sure if the electronics on it still work, but it is a great great toy.
There are quite a few of them around the offices at EA. Pricy suckers if you are looking for one now.

I absolutely loved Iron Giant. The story was great, the characters realistic and the subtext of guns kill people was wonderful. HOWEVER, as a history student I have to tell you that there was a glaring error in the film... There were no Polaris subs in the US fleet. That said, I love the toys and got my grandson the entire line which he still has today. I have the small ones (still MIP). A second movie would be wonderful, but I guess it just isn't to be. *sigh*

Since my son is sick and it's -13 here in Denver, today was pretty much watching movies, and we watched Iron Giant again - it really had me bummed we don't have more toys for this. I wish they'd re-release this in the theaters and redo some of the figures. Like maybe an 18" diecast Iron Giant.

The Superfly wrote: My bad, I coulda sworn you had one...maybe it was Iron Cow. Someone on RTM has one!! I dunno, maybe I'm crazy. You're crazy! =) Kidding... I actually still have the 12" Iron Giant, although I used to own the insanely cool ULTIMATE IRON GIANT. That thing was maybe 2 1/2 feet tall? Massive! But, I found myself running out of shelf space awhile back and decided to find it a new home. I still miss it from time to time, but the 12" version is so nice that I can live with it as-is. Still, I wish they had releaded a 12" scale version of IG in his full-on assault mode. That would have been a sensational toy. Dang... now you've got me wanting to skip work and rewatch the movie again.... Matt aka Iron-Cow
