I've been saying all along that Oklahoma is the epicenter of the toy universe. This just proves my point.

Been there, done that.
The cases in the corner to the right of the wall are new since I was there, as is the Batcave. What I didn't see was the full size fiberglass GL figure. They really should have that up there right now.
As for the look of it, they have a long way to go, but the Batcave is definitely how a toy museum should look, make you feel like you did when you were a kid playing with those same toys, immersed in your own little universe.

My brother visited there last year.. He actually said there wasnt much there (other than some megos) that we didnt have or had at some point (and whatever they had that we didnt own-- we didnt want) - and that their displays were really no more impressive than anything we had at our own houses....(except for the fact that alot of their stuff was carded...)-- he was there maybe an hour and a half-- he told me its an interesting stop off- but in no way a destination..

But once again to each their own..


Id say that batcave is a Batman collectors collection on loan-- as there seem to be quite a few items there- that wouldnt really fall under the toy category..

That being said-- it is a very impressive display (although I would put more fake Bats up instead of Spiderwebs)

But do we know how often they clean in there? I mean, it is unlikely Alfred works there....

I have been to the one in Branson too, and it has way more stuff and is bigger, but much less action figures than this place does. Still, both were enjoyable stops.

Does anybody know of a list or resource of physical location toy and/or action figure museums? I know there are a lot of figures in the Superman Museum in Metropolis, and I think I saw something once on a Wonder Woman Museum, but that is all I know of.

There is a newish Toy "Museum" out here. Thanks for the reminder . . . I wanted to go back with the camera and do up a blog.

In Rochester we have the Strong National Museum of Play which also houses the Official Toy Hall of Fame.

While they have an amazing and VAST collection (the marbles alone top out at 5000+ unique examples) their displays are a bit on the banal side and heavily lean to early (very pre-Barbie) doll sets. There are some nice "hands-on" areas and even the parts of the Museum that are not "toy specific" have plenty of fun things to do and interact with along with craft tables, rotating and traveling shows, a butterfly observatory, and more.

I would love to get in contact with someone on the board to try and get them to update some of the collections with anything post '91, at least a mention of some of the newer "artist toys" and the trends in "customs" and "mods". Unfortunately, it is a very "Old Men with Older Money" type set up and their nostalgia and interests are very different than mine.

But if you would actually like to take a walk down Sesame Street and sit in Big Birds nest, I recommend it. If you have aspirations of being a puppeteer, I recommend it. If you have ever wanted to join Jack in climbing the Beanstalk, I recommend it.

If you want to be overwhelmed with toy nostalgia, its still a work in progress.

One of which features the Guinness Record for largest Lego Mural on earth.

Yeah but where is your"area?" You don't even have it in your profile and the point of the question was to find out where these are at for those of us who don't know and might like to check them out....unless you want to go take and post up pics for us?

the three museums in Question are:

The Marx Toy Museum in Glendale, WV
The Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum in Wheeling, WV
and
The Bellaire Plastic Brick Museum in Bellaire, Ohio

Now that is interresting, especially the second one.

I've been to all three.

Kruger Street is my favorite, because it has a more broad-ranging focus. Though the Lego museum is a can't miss opportunity.

Kruger Street hosts an annual MEGO meet as well, which is always fun, and they change their displays around pretty frequently, so its always worth another visit!
