I honestly have no idea, but yeah, I remember those big floppy discs. Hell, I remember having a cassette deck hooked up to my dad's computer and running software off of that ...

My first computer was a Commodore 64! Just an elaborate video game console. I had a monitor, keyboard, printer and even a huge floppy disk drive but I remember seeing ads for the old tape decks which connected to the Commodore to store information myself!

My father was always a "techie" and was constantly building/re-building his unit with whatever the newest add-on or extension was so we never really had a "brand name" computer at home.

Then one day, I come home from school and my mom had gone and got us an Apple IIe!

I must have programmed in basic everyday for an entire school year (nothing more than some blocky ugly pics, a timed beep, and several failed attempts at "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly" as a series of if/than statements).

Did you guys see the article on the retro Commodore 64?

http://www.informationweek.com/news/per ... /229401217

I had an Atari Computer when I was little. Pretty much the same thing as the C64, just not as well supported game wise.

We had a tape deck but I don't really remember using it. What I do remember was having 10 floppy discs per game and taking a good 15-20 minutes to load them while flipping them over. Such fond memories of my Brother and I sitting in front of that thing for hours playing Ultima 3.

I know what you mean. I wish I still had my original little Macintosh. What a cool little computer it was. *sigh*

What was the name of that cassette computer they sold at TRU, Adam?

My C64 died recently. It was the saddest day of my life. They are such rad little machines. I do plan to get another, and possibly one of the new "retro" ones.

Those buggers were made to last! But color me dumb or something but what are these retro ones? Has the Commodore 64 made a nostalgic come back?

It's the 64x. Looks and feels like a classic one but you can either custom build yours or buy them with up to a core i7 processor. I believe they also come pre-loaded with software that emulates the original system software. Pretty neat.

Sadly, my original C64 died when the ceiling at my old place started leaking. I had one really bad spot that just happened to be right over the C64  It was soaked by the time I got home.
