I have had a subscription to Toyfare for years now, but I've watched the mag get thinner and thinner, and more and more ads, to the point I can read it in it's entirety in like 15 minutes. I'm giving up on it, but for my Bday, my father said he would order me Tomarts if I wanted a subscription. I have never checked out Tomarts or Lees mags, I wanted some opinions on what was better? Which focuses more on vintage lines, which has a price guide (or do both?), which is a bigger mag and has more bang for the buck, etc. Any opinions would be highly appreciated!

You may not want a subscription for either.
I haven't missed an issue of each title basically since they started, but in the past 2 years they have not released that many issues.
I'm not sure if both have ceased publication, ran into issues with the magazines or just don't release as many issues per year anymore.
I've searched the web and really can't find any information regarding either title.

Tomarts always felt like it was just a collection of photos and press releases.
If I wanted to actually read something, it would be Lee's (which has the price guide).
Neither one is even remotely what Toyfare was though.
And I also think that both are either done or very quickly on their way out. I can't remember the last time I saw an issue at my local Barnes & Noble ....

You know Toyfare went the way of the dodo a while back, right? Personally, I stopped subscribing to any toy mags a while back. Lee's is Hot Wheels heavy, if you don't want that, you don't want Lee's. Tomart... no. None of them are at all worthwhile, certainly not at what they're charging. You can get all the same information online for free. Save your money for something else.

I thought Toyfare became like digital or something... That Shamus did that with all his publications like Wizard and all that.

Oh wow, I didn't know Toyfare went out. I let the subscription lapse like a year ago. Thanks for the info.

It was digital for a few months, but I don't think it lasted too long.

Wizard now just does the conventions. I heard at Toy Fair that Garab Shamus was kicked off the board of directors at the beginning of the years. So apparently he's out of Wizard completely now.

Some of us needed those ads to promote ourselves and our events.

I really loved toyfare and wizard. They were fun ways to kind of keep in touch with the hobbies on a monthly basis. I'm not much for surfing the gobbs of internet sites and forums to get all my news, but thats what I've resorted to the past few months. I'm into this hobby pretty deep now. I don't think I've ever been on any forums for any of my other hobbies so I should be sitcking with the comics and figs for quite a while. If any magazines do pop up please let me know
