I was thinking about this the other day and was wondering what were some toys that we've seen but never released (like BWNeo Unicron, for example). I thought about posting this at RTM but now that this has a reasonable chance at being alive for more than a few days I thought I'd ask here.

There was a whole slide show of un-released Star Wars stuff shown at Cellebration III. Rebelscum.com has images of that.

There were the Watchmen figures from DCD Direct.

At my old column I showed pictures of an unreleased Cable figure and the X-men Evolutions animated Beast (I'll dig those up and post them here).

Over on Eddie Wires site you can see the Battle Damaged Wolverine from the "lost" third assortment of X-men movie figures (http://www.edwardwires.com/eddie_Marvel.html)

Over at Steve Kiwus' site (http://www.eightball-studios.com/babes/index.html) you can see the 5th Element figures that were shown at Comic Con one year... and never again.

Let see... there was also the Road Warrior car drom N2Toys.... and one year Playing Mantis showed a line of 12" Johnny Quest figures that never came into being.

Those are just a few off the top of my head.

Hmm,

Off the top of my head, toys that never got released that I really wanted:

1. Bandai Ultimate Muscle Series 2 6" figures.

Yeahm they were gimmicked but there were some nice new characters (Wally Tusket, Checkmate, etc.) At least 3 MIGHT have made it to production, as Checkmate, Kid Muscle 2 and Kevin Mask 2 showed up a few times on ebay...

2. Resaurus Street Fighter:

Well now that Sota is here I could care less :D but at the time the demise of that line was upsetting as it was the best SF line to date...

3. Resaurus (again) Magic the Gathering.

Not much really spectacular but there was some sort of minotaur there, and I like my cow people.

4. Bandai USA: SD Gundam Force.

Looks like it's dead thanks to Bandai USA's typically BRILLIANT marketing, but the Dogas and Gm & Ball figures on display at last years cons looked like finished tooled up toys. Also the DX Bakunetsumaru and Entego was tooled as it was a lucky draw prize in Japan...

5. Bandai USA: Jagun Fighters.

The wave 2 dice 3 packs got released, but the 3rd Action figure never did (stupid to tool 3 figures, hold one out of the assortment to have it die...)

6. Mattel MOTU:

Ugh, don't even get me started :) From "Fearless Photog" to the current 4H designs that line is FULL of "woulda coulda shoulda!"

That's all for now, I'll add more as I think of em, but that's all for now...

In addition to the enormous amount of Super Powers stuff found last year (http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/archives/sp/spfind/), I did an unannounced update on the SP archive recently showing the never made second wave of Robin Hood figures, including King Richard and a Celtic Warrior:

Neo Sapien Mutants (I'm almost positive I lifted this from an old Jeff Cope post)

Good News!

Some of the toys on your list WERE released!

I have a set of the Neosapien Mutants from Exosquad! Not much articulation but damn cool figures!

Also the YUYUHakusho series 2 were released. These are the 6" guys right? Kmarts around La had (and sometimes still has) the Basic wave. I only got the Kuwabara.

And an anime store in LA, Anime Gamers, has the 6" Deluxes. I'm not sure how many they have left at this point, but I definitely remember looking at the Kuwabara with Light Up sword...

Dinosaucers... Man I wanted that line so bad as a kid, even before I knew about unproduced stuff.

Ditto the unproduced joes. I really wanted the Manimals! Even if they were lame...:) Too bad the KB releases only had the first (and less interesting) three of the first 6.

PS. Speaking of unreleased stuff. Is that "Bearriors" crap in Toyfare for real? I thought I knew all the 80's lines but I swear that looked like a Toyfare made up thing...

I knew about the Yu Yu Hakusho deluxes but not about the series 2 basics (Chu, Jin, Toguro, etc.). I thought I saw a series 2 Hiei (not Jagan Hiei - the one with all the eyes) in some dude's collection but I hadn't seen anyone on ebay offering them so I just thought I'd put them up just in case.

Here's some more:

Jayce and the wheeled warriors unproduced (only art) toys

I just found these like 2 seconds ago. I've always heard about these but I've never seen them

Has everyone already forgotten:

-Sculpted Hair She-ra
-Hordak
and everything else we saw. I know, Staticon whatchamacallit figures are coming, but it's not quite the same.

More Transformers also include
- Botcon exclusives that have reportedly gone sour (Fire Prime as Hot Spot etc)

- A few pretenders and such on this page:
http://www.toyarchive.com/Transformers.html

- Alternators missed a few boats because of timing and licensing:
*Sideswpie's body was meant for Tracks
*Bumblebee and Cliffjumper were designed for the VW
*Jazz was a Porsche

Another never-was from ReSaurus is Badlands, I would have loved to have those.

My two greatest toy collecting laments fall into this catagorey. One, the second series of Playmates Zorro with Lady Rawhide, was planned but never released. The other, the last two members of the Small Soldiers Commando Elite, never made it past the rumor stage.

*sigh*

That picture reminds me, there was also a figure or two from the LJN Dune line that didn't make it out.

Geez, did Hasbro drop the ball on Small Soldiers! NOT marketing the Commando Elite as the draw for the film (it was called Small SOLDIERS) and overdoing it with the Gorgonites...

They may have been the good guys, but this was a case where the "bad guys" were SOOOOOOOOOOOO much cooler!

I was always disappointed that we didn't get the final series of Earthworm Jim, and we never got to see the Ripping Heroes. I'm still hunting for those prototypes.

I also forgot to mention the Marvel Superheroes line (based on the game). I think they were kinda like figures.

Also worth mentioning was the Dire Wraith figure as well as art for a Piecemeal figure from some Wizard publication. I imagine he woulda popped up in the old Hulk line.

Of course there's the proposed monster and superhero line that was shown at RTM so long ago that had a set of superheroes (FF, Avengers, X-Men) going against a big monster. The heroes were supposed to be real tiny and the monster at about 5 or 6 inches, I think. The art was by Art Adams so I was pretty much psyched on that alone.

There was also the Flying Fighters line which everyone seemed to salivate over which included Maggot, Jean Grey (in her Blue Team outfit), Cyclops in classic Byrne outfit, and (I think) AOA Sinister.

Galaxyquest (the sci-fi comedy with Tim Allen, dunno if that's the right name or not) had a couple of figures in prototype stage.

OK, it took some digging in my old RTM archive discs, but I found the art. I'm sure I have the Flying Fighter shots somewhere, but I got pictures to format. ;) Before anyone asks, I don't remember what the outcome of our survey on the monsters was. I don't know where those files are. I will say that in light of how popular diorama sets are in Japan now and how well Heroclix sell I think Jesse and company were way ahead of their time with this idea. Probably sell like hotcakes today. I think these were showing in Feb/Mar '98, which would be about when the buzz went live.

Here's the text from our blurb on those monsters sets:

"Toy Biz is considering releasing a line of collector action figure sets based on the famous Marvel Monsters created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This concept pits these ferocious beasts against some of Marvel's most famous super hero teams. These sets would each include a 6"-7" Marvel Monster action figure that battles several miniature 1" classic Marvel action figures against a diorama platform background. The line would be sculpted with intricate detail based on the original artwork of comic superstar Art Adams (see below). Please examine the pictures below to get an idea of what the product line might be like. Toy Biz wants to know what your thoughts are concerning this project."

The sets were: Mole Monster vs Fantastic Four, The Beast That Walks vs. Avengers, Gigantus vs X-Men
