The Star Trek Into Darkness Announcement Teaser!

by SuperHeroHype

December 05, 2012

Paramount Pictures has released the announcement teaser for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness which you can watch below! A longer teaser trailer will come online on December 17.

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 17, the film stars John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

In Star Trek Into Darkness, when the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

UPDATE: The Japanese version of the same video has also been uploaded to the iTunes Movie Trailers website and it contains an additional 14 seconds of footage along with a final shot that should be hauntingly familiar to "Star Trek" fans. Where Can You See the Star Trek Into Darkness IMAX Preview?

by SuperHeroHype

December 06, 2012

As reported last month, J.J. Abrams' much-anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness is going to be showing off nine minutes of footage at select IMAX 3D presentations of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Today, Paramount Pictures has released a full list of locations and you can check it out by clicking here.

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

To further the IMAX experience, Star Trek Into Darkness used IMAX cameras to capture several sequences. Exclusively in IMAX theaters, sequences filmed with the extremely high-resolution cameras will expand to fill more of the screen with unprecedented crispness and clarity, putting moviegoers right into the explosive action and vast scope of the film.

Similar IMAX previews have been used to great success with films like The Dark Knight, Avatar and, last year, Paramount's own Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

The film, set for release on May 17, 2013, is directed by J.J. Abrams with a script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof. Chris Pine, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin will reprise their roles from the 2009 original with new parts for Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller. Abrams is producing with Bryan Burk through Bad Robot Productions, along with Lindelof, Kurtzman and Orci.

I read on Yahoogroups where people are complaining that this is a darker, grittier movie reflecting the times we live in, and deviating from the message of a hopeful, brighter future that the Great Bird tried to hold to. I don't like my trek dark and gritty, and I think most core fans will agree. They will turn out to see it, but will still agree.

In other words, 'To boldly go where one has gone before, and failed to return from.'

RIP Star Trek Enterprise.

CCC.

New Image From Star Trek Into Darkness

by SuperHeroHype

December 10, 2012

Paramount Pictures has released a new image from the upcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. In the pic, you'll find Zachary Quinto as Spock, Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, and Benedict Cumberbatch as....John Harrison? That's what Paramount claims his name is in the caption for the photo, but it is likely a decoy name. Time will tell.

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 17, the film stars John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

I was never a big Star Trek fan. I really liked the "reboot" of sorts, so can someone explain to me what I'm missing below? I've never seen any of the other movies aside from tidbits on TV, and only seen a few of the TV shows.

Thanks.

Alice Eve's Star Trek Into Darkness Character Revealed

by SuperHeroHype

December 10, 2012

This Friday, Paramount Pictures will reveal the first nine minutes of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness before select IMAX showings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Read the full list of participating theaters by clicking here). Today, ComingSoon.net was afforded the rare opportunity of visiting Abrams' Bad Robot Productions and talking with some of the talent behind next summer's much anticipated release. We'll have a lot more from the visit posted soon, but one mystery was officially revealed: Alice Eve's role is that of Carol Marcus.

Marcus, played by Bibi Besch in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, was, in the original timeline, a Federation scientist whose work led to the top-secret "Project Genesis." She had a relationship with James T. Kirk and became mother to his son, David, but the pair ultimately decided that it was best for her to raise the boy alone.

As to how closely Star Trek Into Darkness will mirror the original canon remains to be seen, although Bad Robot's nonchalant reveal of the Marcus role suggests that no major spoilers should be inferred from the character's identity.

Also starring Chris Pine, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Bruce Greenwood, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Weller, Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters everywhere on May 17, 2013.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve Talk About Star Trek Into Darkness

by SuperHeroHype

December 17, 2012

Last week, it was revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing 'John Harrison' and Alive Eve will be Carol Marcus in J.J. Abrams' upcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. The pair were on hand after the film's prologue was screened to talk about the film and you can check out the interview below (via IGN).

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 17, the film also stars John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Peter Weller.

The film finds the crew of the Enterprise called back home where they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization that has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

The film has also launched a new viral website at AreYouThe1701.com. There's currently no content outside of the ability to register for updates, but that will likely be changing in the very near future.

More Details Revealed About Star Trek Into Darkness Villain

by SuperHeroHype

December 23, 2012

Following the reveal earlier this month that Benedict Cumberbatch's Star Trek Into Darkness villain goes by the mysterious name of "John Harrison", TrekMovie and GyaO! caught up with director J.J. Abrams and Cumberbatch himself.

"When J.J. described the role to me… he described someone who was, in movie terms, a mixture of Hannibal Lecter, Jack in 'The Shining", and the Joker in 'Batman'," Cumberbatch told GyaO!. "...He's someone who has enormous physical strength. He's someone who is incredibly dangerous, both as a physical entity and through the use of various technologies and weapons and who performs acts of what I would describe as terrorism. He's also a psychological master. He manipulates the minds of those around him to do his bidding in a very, very subtle way."

"His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an... average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet," Abrams explained to TrekMovie, "and he turns against the group because he has got this backstory and this kind of amazing secret agenda. After two very violent attacks, one in London and one in the US, our characters have to go after this guy and apprehend him. And it is a far more complicated and difficult thing then they ever anticipated. 'Into Darkness' is very much about how intense it gets and really what they are up against."

Fans can catch a brief tease of Cumberbatch's character on the big screen now as part of a nine-minute IMAX preview during digital screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (find the full list of participating theaters here). The full film hits theaters May 17, 2013.

You can read the full Abrams interview by clicking here and watch GyaO!'s video interview in the player below.

J.J. Abrams Screens Star Trek Into Darkness for Dying Fan

by SuperHeroHype

January 03, 2013

Eight days ago, a user on Reddit (via Yahoo!) posted a story about his dear friend, a lifelong Trekkie named Dan, who has been diagnosed with two forms of cancer. Dan and his wife went to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hoping to see the Star Trek Into Darkness prologue, but unfortunately it wasn't screened with the show they saw. Not long after this, Dan's doctors gave him just a few weeks left to live.

It didn't take long for this online post to catch fire and it eventually got the attention of Star Trek director J.J. Abrams. As a result, Abrams set up a screening for Dan and his wife. The couple were hoping to see the prologue but were delighted to find out they were getting to see the entire film.

"Hi everyone, it's Daniel's wife, we are of course sworn to secrecy, BUT we are officially allowed to say we saw it and we enjoyed it IMMENSELY as a film and as a gesture...We were so touched when [Abrams] was concerned that we wouldn't 100% enjoy the screening as it's still being worked on....... Be assured we enjoyed it 110%!"

She went on to thank everyone involved and for everyone to remember the story as an example of giving during the holidays.

"This is a story of us giving something to him, the 'internet' community giving something to him and ultimately being a heartwarming gift to our friends, family and so many others. This story of us (and of course JJAbrams & Bad Robot) being able to give this surprise gift of a screening to a huge movie buff like Daniel, especially a film made by a film maker who obviously makes movies with such care, with a fan like Daniel in mind."

See, this is the kind of stuff that warms your heart. Wish there was more of this than the other stuff. Well done JJ!
