Emma Thompson Eyeing Men in Black IIIby SuperHeroHypeSep 30th, 2010 In talks for Oh, the head of MiBEmma Thompson is confirmed to be in talks for a role in Men in Black III. Thompson would play Oh, the head of MiB. It is unclear whether her character will serve as a replacement for Rip Torn's Zed, who appeared in Men in Black and Men in Black II. Recent legal issues may prevent Torn from returning to the franchise. Thompson would be joining previously-announced cast members Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and Jemaine Clement. Men in Black III is expected to go into production shortly with a script from Etan Cohen and David Koepp. Barry Sonnenfeld will return to the franchise as director. The film is being planned for release on May 25th, 2012.

Alec Baldwin Joining Men in Black III?by SuperHeroHypeOct 14th, 2010 He would be playing the boss in a different timePajiba reported a rumor yesterday that Alec Baldwin, Gemma Arterton and Sharlto Copley are in negotiations to join Columbia Pictures' Men in Black III. We've done some checking of our own and have learned that out of those three names, Baldwin looks most likely to be joining the cast that also includes Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement and Emma Thompson. We're not sure about Arterton and Copley's status, but those two are definitely not yet on board. The site said that Baldwin would play the head of MiB in 1969. Thompson is playing the boss in modern day. Filming was recently pushed back slightly to November 18 for a May 25, 2012 release in 3D and 2D theaters.

From IGN: Men In Black 3 Gets a Do OverShooting on the movie will take a long hiatus, but why?November 15, 2010 by Phil PirrelloShooting on Men in Black 3 will go on pause just in time for Christmas. But relax, you'll still get your end-credits rap song from the Fresh Prince. The Los Angeles Times reports that the 3D sequel, starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, starts shooting this week in New York, but it will take a nearly two-month hiatus after Christmas. The reason? Sources close to the production infer that the hiatus is to allow time for Catch Me If You Can screenwriter Jeff Nathanson to retool Etan Cohen's original script. According to The LA Times: "Nathanson will specifically work on the story's time-travel component that sees a leap back to 1969, when Josh Brolin appears as a young Agent Kay (the character made popular by Tommy Lee Jones)." However, Walter Parkes, the film's producer claims that the hiatus is not the result of creative disagreement but rather part of a plan conceived months ago that would allow the production to begin in 2010, but allow parts of the movie, which is set in the summer, to shoot in a more temperate climate. Whatever the reason, such a move is highly unusual for big-budget productions. It is also a costly one as the crew will continue to get paid during the break. The delay will not impact the movie's release date, with the franchise's third installment slated to hit theatres May 2012.

From IGN: Men in Black 3 Calls Up KoeppSpidey and Jurassic Park screenwriter brought in for last minute rewrites.March 2, 2011 Sony Pictures is reportedly bringing in one of their favorite screenwriters (and one of the industry's top script doctors) to do a late-stage polish on the currently-on-hiatus Men in Black 3. Deadline claims that the studio's hired David Koepp ( Spider-Man, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) to do a few weeks worth of work on the Mib3 script while the project's shoot remains on hiatus; production is set to resume March 28. Koepp is expected to hone the time travel sequences that are said to see Agent J (Will Smith) going back to 1969 where he meets the younger versions of Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K (to be played by Josh Brolin) and Emma Thompson's agency boss (to be played by Alice Eve). As of now, Men in Black 3 remains slated to bow May 25, 2012.

From IGN: What's Up with Men in Black III?The latest on the on again/off again production.March 10, 2011 What exactly is going on with Men in Black III? They were filming at the end of last year, and then they stopped. And... what? Are Agents K and J making a return or not? The Hollywood Reporter has a piece on the convoluted production, and non-production as it were, of the Will Smith/Tommy Lee Jones starrer. Essentially, the $200 million-plus picture started shooting without a finished script last November. And while -- believe it or not -- that's not entirely unusual these days, the fact that now, some five months after production began, it still doesn't have a locked screenplay… well, that is something of a problem, it would seem. "Sony Pictures started filming Men in Black III with only one act of the script set," explains the trade. "The studio built in a break in production that was scheduled to last from late December through mid-February, during which the remainder of the screenplay was supposed to be completed." The hiatus was also meant to take advantage of New York tax incentives for film production. But now that break has been extended until the end of March as new scribe David Koepp has come in to work out "complex script issues involving time travel." Because the MIB movies have always been such bastions of realistic sci-fi and logic? Or is there something else going on here? Insiders tell THR that the film might've gone into production simply because all of the main players -- Smith, Jones and director Barry Sonnenfeld -- had well-timed openings in their schedules. It has been almost a decade since the second film, after all, and who knows what kind of wait Sony would've had if they let these guys go off into the wild again. Tropic Thunder's Etan Cohen wrote the initial script, but Smith wanted to make changes to it. And the paper also indicates that tension between Sonnenfeld and producer Walter Parkes are further complicating matters. "The real evil here is Walter trying to impose his point of view on things," says another source. "And because he's so facile and he's got great hair, he wins the day a lot. But what sounds great never materializes into a screenplay." Yes, great hair will do a lot for you in life. But will it get Men in Black III into theaters by its planned summer, 2012 date? That might take some complex time travel to pull off at this point.
