Four more images from Dredd have come online via 2000AD and can be viewed below. The film is coming to 3D and 2D theaters on September 21.
Dredd takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. Peter Travis directed the film from a script by Alex Garland. Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey co-star.
The film slated to hit theaters later this year, The LA Times today ran a special feature on the upcoming Dredd, including a new photo of Lena Headey as Madeline "Ma-Ma" Madrigal and a special interview with the actress.
“She’s a prostitute who then kills her pimp and takes over his drug-running business,” says Headey of her role. "And Ma-Ma is a bit of a man-hater.”

“I think of her like an old great white shark who is just waiting for someone bigger and stronger to show up and kill her,” continues the "Game of Thrones" star. “She’s ready for it. In fact, she can’t wait for it to happen. And yet no one can get the job done. She’s an addict, so she’s dead in that way, but that last knock just hasn’t come. This big, fat, scarred shark moving through the sea and everyone flees and she’s like, ‘Will someone just have the balls to do it? Please?‘”
Dredd will be released in 2D and 3D on September 21st.
It's been a while since we've heard anything about the new Judge Dredd movie. Seems like all we've really known for the longest is that it's happening and that Karl Urban is playing the title role.
Luckily for us, the filmmakers took to Cannes looking for buyers and as a result have brought up some more promotional items for the film. Check out a new still from the film below and a new plot outline of the film from the official Facebook page of the film that is now simply titled Dredd.
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge – a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan’s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound’s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.
The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

Screenwriter Alex Garland discusses the potential for a Judge Dredd prequel and sequel.
by Chris Tilly
July 9, 2012
With the Dredd press tour ramping up in preparation for San Diego Comic-Con, the film’s star Karl Urban and screenwriter Alex Garland appeared at the London Film and Comic Con this past weekend to talk about the movie.
And amongst the many things they discussed was the potential for Judge Dredd sequels, with Bleeding Cool reporting Garland as saying the following...
“We’ll see a sequel if the gross is above $50m in the US. It’s a simple financial equation. We’re an independent movie.”
And in terms of what those sequels might revolve around, Garland explained that the Dark Judges could make an appearance…
“I wrote death into this script, but it didn’t feel right for the first film. I thought it felt right but after about 16 drafts it really didn’t work out. I needed to have set up the city and Dredd first before taking on what is essentially a riff on the Judges. You need to know what the Judges are before you can subvert them.
“I wrote a second script which was about Dredd going out to the Cursed Earth. That was rejected for similar reasons.
“If they want to make sequels, I’ve got a story that goes from this one into the origins of Dredd and the city. Then the third one would have a strange, existential attack from the Dark Judges.”
So 2,000AD fans, is this the way you’d like to see the Judge Dredd story progress?
