There has been no shortage of cool promotions from the Dredd 3D camp but this is the first one that hasn't focused on the man himself. Featured in this new banner from the Dredd 3D Facebook page is Olivia Thirlby who portrays Cassandra Anderson, the newest Judge for Mega City One.
The Pete Travis-directed action thriller that opens in 3D and 2D theaters on September 21. Alex Garland wrote the R-rated film, which stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey. You can check it out beneath the official synopsis:
The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.
During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

I just saw this tonight. I had heard really good things about it but had really low expectations. It was REALLY good. I was pleasantly surprised. Well worth checking out. And the Mrs. really liked it too.

I'll be checking it out once it lands in my mail box. Decided to rent it through Netflix and not blind buy it. Now you say you like it Julius. Do you think it has replay value? That's honestly what I try to add to my BD collection. I got a little nutty when it came to DVD and don't want to buy anything I'm not going to watch multiple times.

I really enjoyed this movie. During the week of it's release I went to 3 Best Buys and they were all sold out of the blu-ray. Went to Target that Friday and it was sold out there too.
I'll probably pick it up on Amazon soon.
I rented it at Redbox and thoroughly enjoyed it.
